I've had partial season tickets to the Giants since 1991, so I saw Bonds ever summer he played in SF. Never been anyone like him. I saw him walked with the bases loaded, intentionally (LaRussa) and I saw him walked with no one on base to lead off an inning, intentionally (Cox). He would often take two strikes, hittable pitches, to bait a good pitcher into trying to sneak one past him. He hit lefties better than righties most of the time, so the poor sods who came in from the bullpen were no good.

He was a cheater and liar, a narcissist and a bad husband and father. But he was the most feared hitter ever.

The most feared hitter ever was Ricky Russo who played little league in my town 45 years ago .Hit 12 consecutive homers in 12 ab's,with about twenty walks separating them.Turned out he was 14 ,playing in the 12 and under division ,he looked 18.Saying Bonds was the best hitter ever is like saying Ricky Russo is the best littler league player ever.No they are not,not even in the top 500

In fairness padre you said feared. That he was, mostly by baseball owners and their lawyers who never had the guts to throw his huge ***,and huge head, out of baseball forever.

glad some sanity has rung in...bonds was a great hitter by nature, many feel he was destined for the hall of fame either way, im not as convinced of that, but people I respect say so, so Ill give you that. great analogy with the little league kid, who probably was a pretty good hitter as it was, but might have found things a lot tougher in pony league where he belonged. ironically, barry might not make the hall of fame anyway, even with those gaudy numbers, or at least until after the current voters have died. Ive always felt bad for the maris's, aarons, frank robinsons etc that their achievements were obliterated by a needle. and found it strange SF so embraced Bonds...I loved sammy sosa when he was running out to RF, and pissed when MCgwire beat him...but NOW... those three straight 60-homer seasons, and his entire body of work is an embarrassment to most Cubs fans. it's like reggie bush at USC...it's as if he never played for the Cubs.

And then from a Strat perspective -- with an $80 mil cap -- Tom gets to field a team of Bonds & the 7 dwarfs
