Re: couple questions:

Postby padrenurgle1 » Sun Nov 20, 2011 11:05 am

[quote:03095e3cb1="jflatour99"]While we're waiting, I have these old questions about the game engine. Some are because of the language that am not certain to understand:

- Don't relivieve before : F1,2,3,4,5, etc.

What's F... ? A degree of fatigue I suppose but how does it works exactly ?

- Don't Pinch it for vs. : Does it means that the player which I check this case won't be replaced by a PH ?

- Avoid PH in blowout: Does it means that the player which I check this case won't be used as a PH in desperate games ?

- Finally Don't PRun for: Does it means that the player which I check this case won't be replaced by a P runner or won't run for someone else ?

[b:03095e3cb1]BTW, this morning, the 2005 season doesn't works for me.[/b:03095e3cb1][/quote:03095e3cb1]

Hi JF.

1. The fatigue numbers in the later years work like this:
NO SETTING: pitcher is likely to get removed as soon as he reaches minimal fatigue (past his inning limit and the details listed on the site, which involved baserunners allowed)
F8, etc. The highest number allows for a little longer leash. The low numbers (F2 etc) allow for a much longer leash. If you have an incredible pitcher like RJ and he starts to get fatigued in the 7th, you can ensure that HAL rides him out by giving him an F1 - F8 leash. If it's F1, RJ will stay in until he rots (like he could give up 10 runs and still stay in the game)

2. Don't pinch hit vs. L or R: Yes, if you check this, the player will never be pinch hit for, no matter who is on the bench or what the platoon split is. Good hitters should have this checked.

3. Avoid PH in blowout: The player will not be used as a pinch-hitter in blowouts (and usually not at all)

4. Don't PR for: the checked player will not be taken out of the game for a pinch-runner, even if it's Bengie Molina and he's on in the 9th of a 1-0 game. If you check it, the player will always stay in the game.

As it will be awhile till I pick I will reflect on some left over business from our Barry bonds discussion the other night. Some one dissed slightly Hank Aaron.I believe Aaron, for all the honors heeped on him ,is underrated.

He played in the toughest league in the toughest decade in baseball history. The National League from about 1957 to 1968 was the best baseball ever played.Allmost all the cream of the first wave of black ballplayers entered the eight team league . Aaron ,Mays ,Robinson ,Campanella ,McCovey, Clemente, Stargell, Wills, Gilliam ,Hart, the Alou's, Flood, Brock, Pinson Gibson,White, Allen, Marichal, T Davis, W Davis, Newcombe, Dick Allen, Billy Williams, Banks,

These guys flooded into an eight team league, the American league let few black players in ,and so the Nationals entered an age of domination, all though the Americans held their own in World Series

Aaron faced these pitchers day in and day out Koufax,Drysdale,Newcombe, Marichal ,Gaylord Perry, Bunning,Gibson,Shantz and Pappas ,Friend and Face, Robin Roberts and later Carlton, Seaver and Koosman ,Fergie Jenkins and I am missing some.

Against this competition he put up twenty years of pristine numbers and made hitting look like Fred Astair made dancing look ,effortless,
Mantle swung like he was knocking down a mountain,Mays flew out from under his hat,the bat looked like a Toothpick in Frank Howards hands,Clementine unwound like a cobra and lashed out at the ball,Frank Robinson stood on the plate every at bat a personal challenge to the pitcher to throw inside.

Aaron all understated class,he barely swung. Short sweet balanced snap of those wrists, perfectly balanced on his thick, legs and big butt, the ball flew off like a rocket.AND he could run ,throw and field.

I think I'm about ready for a mulligan...I don't supose there's any way I can just get my team from the Reelin' in the Years League back? lol...

One of the biggest keys to the Dwarves' success was the fact that I drafted Johan Santana and David Ortiz in the middle of the draft...I think the first time around everyone was focused more on 2001 than the big picture. Not so this time...everyone that should be gone each turn, is.

I'm looking at my team and I see Todd Helton, three DHs, 2 dominant closers I can't possibly use in the early years, and some spare change. I think I'd better keep my #1 picks this time around.

Yes, this should be interesting. Also fun to see managers change their strategies a bit -- more hitting or more pitching, etc. Last time, I tried to go against the flow, choosing fast players who were pretty good fielders and who got on base often.

This time I'm accepting the power strategy of the steroids era. My guys should be the most powerful team I've ever had. So far, my first 8 batters combined in MLB '01 for over 300 doubles and over 250 HRs -- and they should keep that up for a number of years!
