And Then The Trades That Are Declined

And Then The Trades That Are Declined

Postby nevdully's » Mon Nov 21, 2011 11:57 am

Someone in 200m dh has both Wagner and Wells at SS and Hornsby, Eddie Collins and Evers at 2b....he has fair sps...he's in a stadium more suited for Wagner at SS and there are less HR parks than usual here in 200m....

I ask for Wells and his 3rd string 2b Evers for Winfield and[b:3dded6a721] Pete Alexander [/b:3dded6a721]and he declines....See some people won't pull the trigger unless they feel they're robbing you blind. Sad really.

200/live leagues should have a 25 player roster limit. unless you luck out in the draft u can be screwed with no options. i no longer play these leagues unless there is a 25 player limit.

Isn't it a part of your draft strategy in live drafts to make sure you are not screwed by the draft?

Since most 200m leagues are DH leagues I will assume that is the case here. Correct me if I have made an incorrect assumption.

In that event Hornsby or Wells could get slotted for DH. That would still leave them needing to trade one of the 4 but whether this is the right deal for them would depend on who else is on their roster. What does their pitching staff look like for example. It might be they do not think they need to upgrade their pitching. Maybe they have had bad luck with Winfield or do not feel they need a RFer. It could also be possible they are in negotiations with someone else for one of the 4 and feel that they can do better. Always their choice to do so.

Or maybe this is someone who has been made fun of for trade offers before and is now upset and just turned off to trading.

Having said that I might like this offer and be inclined to accept because I like Winfield and Alexander. But because I do does not mean everyone does. :D

TRADES

Postby 1787 » Mon Nov 21, 2011 3:29 pm

I know Ive made some poor offers and some great offers in either case just to get the door open for counter offers and to enjoy the give and take that only the 200 and 140 mil leagues offer. Most times trades are just declined with no comments no counter offers. Some guys seem to want to corner the market on a postion and then hold the excess for ransom when making a trade. I try to remember who those managers are and just take them off the list of managers to even bother with. Id rather make a bad trade with someone who at least seems to be operating with a resonable mind set than with the srew you attitude that we see too often.

I am not sure I understand this. The limit is the same for everyone,
there isn't really an advantage or disadvantage to any one manager
because of any specific limit. Higher limits do let you take advantage
of platoons when when you don't get a player who goes both ways.

Unless you suggest that managers are "hording" talent they don't
intend to actually use in a "keep away" attempt. I don't see that
much in LIVE leagues, at least not successfully. Only one other team
can have that horded player and usually you can do more with the
roster spot (like more bullpen depth) than an advantage over one
single team gets you. Anyway, maybe I am not clear on what the post
means.

I answered about his sps (fair) Yeah it is a dh league my guess is Hack Wilson will be his dh.

[b:9a62a5eddb]Context = I'd hope that after thousands and thousands of trade offers I've given and received that it'd be understood I consider context before posting the examples I post ...[/b:9a62a5eddb]

The are a few "ors, ifs, and other possibilities that rarely get listed....like hoarding, so why counter or have a constructive dialogue, or only trading when you know you've ripped someone off....or just too paralyzed by fear to pull the trigger....[b:9a62a5eddb]No rule breaking[/b:9a62a5eddb]...and [b:9a62a5eddb]certainly your right to do[/b:9a62a5eddb]... just making something (trading) that most find fun and useful a lot less fun.

anyone who doesn't like Pete Alexander is retarded.

Seriously, who wouldn't trade Wells for Pete. I guess there's one out there but really, what a joke.

I am for any dialog that will encourge more people to consider trades. It's just a game, not a life changing decision... :)

Well, that would appear to remove one of his options and add a little more motivation to trade 2 of those you mentioned.

He may still feel he can get something better if he waits. But hard to imagine he will get a better option than Pete. Though that is possible if there are several teams in need of middle infielders and he can get one of them to get desparate and give in.

Can I assume this is preseason and league does not start until next Monday? If so maybe he just wants to wait and see what else comes in. Though in that event in his shoes I probably would have sent a message I would consider it and not hit decline so you might keep the offer open.

Could be this weekend as time is getting short he will lessen demands.

Also possible you have at some time made him mad and he has personal reasons for declining. There are 2 people I occasionally see in leagues that get automatic declines unless they just make an offer I cannot refuse.
