And Then The Trades That Are Declined

I believe the number of runs created by a player sitting on the bench is ... ZERO.

[quote:9c57a3ce74]What does accepting Alexander do for our unknown protagonist? Lower the ERA of one starting pitcher about 1.00. Assuming 270 innings that results in 30 runs saved.

Yeah I guess the 1.00 lower ERA which translates in X less runs is w-a-y more important than the 4 more wins Pete would get him over his 4th starter (according to DD)

BTW "Hoarding"

Last I checked everyone MUST draft 10 pitchers I guess since I drafted 10 good ones I'm a hoarder.

yep. Your last 2 pitcher picks should be Scott Sanderson and Jack Billingham.

Would you prefer monopolize to hoarding? Probably stockpiling is the most accurate word, but whatever. The fact that everyone drafts 10 pitchers is quite beside the point and you know it. In order to get the staff you drafted you pretty much had to rank your top 6-8 draft picks as pitchers. The strategy is clearly to get as many of the top pitchers as possible (including relievers e.g. Dale Murray). You then use them as trade bait. As I said before it's a perfectly legitimate strategy. Especially for someone who likes to trade. And you've been doing it as long as I've played ATG. Back in III you used to stockpile 2bmen. Even at 80M autodrafts.

Sometimes the best way to counter the stockpiling/hoarding/monopolizing strategy is to not trade with the guy. We all did it one league to Merm in a live draft, he drafted starting pitchers for the first six rounds. Nobody traded with him and he was stuck with a horrible team. So the other guy's strategy is legitimate too --my whole point in even posting on this thread.

petro - did everyone decide independently not to tradenwith him? Or was it a group decision? I'm not sure collusion is really fair, if that's what happened.

I must say, I just had a very good trade experience. In a 200M league, I sent a trade offering Canseco, Dean Chance, John Donaldson and the expensive Gehringer for 3-Finger, the new Jackie Robinson, Mike Caldwell and Colavito. This trade is in my favor, but as with all my trades, I put in a statement saying who I was targeting and asking them to counter if interested.

Within a day, the manager countered with a deal that threw in my dealing Dimaggio to him for Delahanty. I didn't want to part with Dimaggio, so I countered by taking away the CF swap and instead offering Haller in exchange for his Bresnahan, since Bench was hitting .170 for him.

Within 1/2 day, he countered by requesting Hartnett for Bench instead of Haller for Bresnahan. I wasn't a huge fan of giving up Hartnett, but this brought the trade to pretty close to even, at least in both of our opinions, so I accepted.

2 days, one offer, 3 counter offers, and an acceptance. That's what I love about this game. The banter, the dealing, the seeing a plan come together. That's why I play. Hope everyone can have that same experience.

Well my intent is not necessarily to get em and trade em...it's to get em (and that works about 50/50)...and then I'm content regardless. I just won a Title where I did not trade one from my deep staff.

Also I will gladly overpay with my excess in a trade to fill a hole.

I will not just give one away however just because I have excess.
