Explain This Move Please...?

J.Robinson, playing 3b gets injured for 5 games. Cox replaces him at third. BUT, why does HAL have to rearrange all of my OF? Dihigo is moved to RF, instead of leaving him where he belongs-in CF with his powerful arm. This move happened several times throughout the year.

Is there a reason for this? How can I avoid it next time? HAL is getting trigger happy?

TOP OF INNING 2 ***
SUBSTITUTE 3B- Billy Cox
SUBSTITUTE LF- Roger Maris
SUBSTITUTE CF- Turkey Stearnes
SUBSTITUTE RF- Martin Dihigo

hal was doing you a favor. a 1/7 over a 1/18 far outweighs arm strength. according to strat experts from previous forums, the rational is if you get the out, u don't need to throw. u also have to factor in fb(x)'s with bases empty or only on 1b.

Id rather have the stronger arm in Dihgo in CF.

Don'tg have the data at my fingertips, but lower errors are more important in CF, and a stronger arm is more important in RF. HAL is doing you a favor.

if we were comparing a 1/7 to a 1/10 maybe, but a 1/18, no contest.

a 1e18 OF will make, on average, 18 errors per season whether in RF or CF. A 1e18 will catch about 80% of the X-balls to CF, and about 70% to RF. So the arm is trivially more important for a CF than a RF on X-balls.

But, throwing arm ratings are far more commonly applied on normal dice rolls, like open singles, open doubles, flyB, and flyB?. Relevant dice rolls seem to come up a little more often for CF than for RF, but runners are less likely to try to go from 1st to 3rd on singles to RF than to CF, and similarly from 2nd to 3rd on flyB? rolls.

Overall, it's probably more important to have a great arm in CF than in RF, but the effect is small. An it's really irrelevant where your guy with the big error rating is stationed in the OF.

HAL has a strong tendency to move fielders to the position first listed on their card when given the opportunity, either via injury or an in-game move at another position.

Any time there is an injury, Hal can go wild.

Something to consider...my gut always told me that the stronger arm is important in CF. Good discussion though-as luck will have it, Robinson's replacement, Cox, a good field, no hit utility guy, hit 2 HRs and drove in 5 over the 5 game span. I wound up winning 4 of 5 with Cox !
