First team ever. Update Final roster after waivers, advice?

Well, as it sits, I don't see this team doing very well. Morris will get his bell rung on a pretty regular basis pitching at Fenway. With 8 BPHR chances vs. RHH, your opponents will be Pumping Citgo over the green monster on a pretty consistent basis.

I would try to move Morris and Ryan and try to pick up a better park fit as your #3 starter and use the extra cash to pick up a decent closer. In an '86 DH league you probably only need one real good one, but Worrell just isn't going to be good enough, in my opinion.

On offense, you did pretty well. I think Baylor, Horner, and Evans were all pretty good pickups. You have an all 1 OF, which is good, but McGee is pretty injury prone so you need a better backup than a no-hit 4 (Coleman). I've seen some teams with 3 "easy outs" at the bottom do well, but it's not super common. Most winning teams spread it out a bit more. Good Luck!

You still have 2 HUGE problems.

No.1 is Barry Larkin. You can't play a 3e41 at 2B, you will lose 100 games this way. You "could" play him at SS, but even a 3e19 at SS isn't great. You need a 2B and SS who is a 2 range and has fewer than 20 errors.

No.2 is Nolan Ryan. You keep sticking with him. You are losing salary by having him make 27 starts. He is priced to make 33-34. You need to go with a four-man rotation, not five, since you have two *SP already that are solid.

Dropping both non SP* would be the best move. Grab another SP*. Keeping the 5 you have now will let you play with your team and that is fun.
Your hitters don't look very good after you get past 5. That is 4 guys that will cause you many zeros on your scoreboard. You don't have much in the way of OBP and SLG. for a hitters park.
You do have a chance to play with your team during the season and find out if the advice you have been given is right. Play with your team and see how it all works. Don't just set your team and forget it as that won't teach you much about the game.
It takes around 10 games to really get it. If you stick it out that long you will be in pretty good shape. The ratings that most guys have are from the amount of games played. Don't let the high rating fool you. You can compete with all of us if you just listen, learn and tinker with your teams. Everyone here as you have seen will help you out just ask the question. No questions are stupid here and you will be directed to were you can find answers and you will always get advice. We all have different ways of biulding teams but the most important thing is that you need to build your team to fit your ballpark.
Good luck with your team and I always love checking the scores even when I am down by 20 games to see if I got a sweep.

I appreciate the feedback. There are no decent * pitchers available to make it worth dropping Ryan. I notice some people in my league are setting up for 5 man rotations so I am hoping Ryan is gonna be trade bait and perhaps I can get my 4 man rotation through trading.

I have Harold Reynolds on the bench if Larkin is making too many errors but Reynolds obviously can't hit at all but he is an A bunter so I may be able to use him if I place him right in the order. I have learned a lot about building a team already after now having done one draft and the waiver wire. I think next time I will make sure at least one area of my team is set up so I can fill in the rest during the free agency. I had holes everywhere this time and things just don't quite line up.

Just for fun since the season hasn't started yet, who thinks I will over/under .500? .500 is my goal for this season anyway.

I am in that league and you are correct apout no * pitchers left. I would go the other way and replace Ojeda, keeping Clemens & Ryan and getting three more non-* SP's trying to upgrade in other places. There is not a lot left. You still may be better of without Boggs.

Listen to what dj has to say. You are very lucky as I was to play in leagues against him. We have never talked much but I have noticed that he teams are always competive. I followed his team makeup and have done pretty good with that.
Check out his team and I bet it is well balanced between pitching and hitting with some power along with speed on the bases. It will have good defense up the middle.
Check out his games nightly as you do yours and watch how he manages his team. If there are other Vets in your league check out thiers also. You can also ask questions during the season in your league and get help even in your division. No one is looking to send you in the wrong direction as we are all looking for new players and more leagues to play in as we love this game!

I'm not sure why you'd want to keep an extra starter with such a weak bullpen. Drop one of those starters for an upgrade in the bullpen.

I'm trying to trade Ryan instead of just dropping him and letting somebody else scoop him up. There are several people in my league running 5 man rotations as their rosters look right now. Nothing is available to upgrade at SS which is why I have Templeton to begin with.

I don't plan on keeping six starters. I didn't like the discount relievers left so I thought Saberhagen was actually better as a reliever than the guys I could have gotten instead. I see what you are saying and I feel kind of stuck. I don't want to unload talent when other people can just scoop it up with no penalty. I will try to trade first and see how people perform and then adjust.

I have a feeling that exactly what you noticed about my squad will inevitably cost me many games but I am kind of stuck at the moment. No free agent upgrades that are worth it right now. I could drop Ryan and add Schiraldi I guess.
