Bernie: Arky Vaughan, 1935 -- special request for next batch

Postby Hack Wilson » Thu Dec 01, 2011 8:39 pm

That sounds good to me. :D

I'm always looking for another "hack" in the field.

Please, Bernie, please! :D

If Arky is a 2, he will be very pricey. Among other tidbits from bbref, he had only 5 GDP for the entire season, so he will have very few gbA's. He also had a slightly better OPS against LHP than RHP.

But I wonder if SOM isn't working on an SADV card set for 1935, and waiting until that effort is complete to unleash Arky to lay waste to ATG VI.

!935 - Buddy Myer, and throw in Joe Vosmik for good measure.

This is always a lurking concern, and I don't have a rule for how to handle it. SOM didn't deliver Arky '35 to us to make available to you, but we do have that card lying around in our Fantasim game that I can probably poach - if they haven't released a Super-Advanced 1935 season since, then it's probably the one and only version. I'll try to add him either this batch or next month's.

Harry Coveleski would also be a nice addition!

Bernie, since you mentioned Fantasim - any chance we can get an infusion of fresh cards over there? Please!

Bernie, please consider adding either the 1945 or 1946 hal newhouser. the tigers franchise teams could use a good starter. plus it's kind of frustrating as a tiger fan to see him used as a reliever from essentially his only season with cleveland and his only season used as mainly a reliever. . he appeared in 460 games as a tiger and only 28 as an indian with 373 of 374 starts in a tiger uniform. thanks for reading this

[quote:326fd2a03d="royalKC"]OPS+ = 190

For example, the list of left-handed shortstops rated 1 or 2 on defense is very, very short.

Lloyd, Pesky, Tavener and Guillen.[/quote:326fd2a03d]

Actually, for what it's worth, Kubek's 1961 is a 2e31. I have used him sometimes as a platoon SS vs RHP. Also, Kubek's punchless 1963 card is 2e16.

But it's true 'nuff that LHB SS's with decent gloves are thin on the ground.

I wish Ozzie Guillen could still be had for .86M. Now there was a bargain!

6 Requests:

1982 Lonnie Smith (doesnt have a card--one of the few players with meaningful careers that doesnt have a card in TSN Strat)................ speaking of that, let me introduce..........

1922 or 1925 [b:4560ef9d85]IRISH MEUSEL[/b:4560ef9d85]

1946 Hal Newhouser (much better year statistically than 1945, and really needs a better card than 1944)

[b:4560ef9d85]1936 [/b:4560ef9d85]Arky Vaughan (his 1935 card is a REAL outlier for his career; 36 is much more of a typical Arky season)

1937 Joe Cronin or 1938 Joe Cronin (Joe needs another card option)

1921 or 1922 Rabbit Maranville (needs a [b:4560ef9d85]better [/b:4560ef9d85]card option)

I know that I'm in the minority, but I think, other than a few needs, and some additions as current players reach the end of great careers, we have [b:4560ef9d85]PLENTY [/b:4560ef9d85]of cards. Not disparaging bernie's work to add them [b:4560ef9d85]AT ALL[/b:4560ef9d85](thanks bernie, you do great work :D ), I personally just think we have a good player pool with a few well-considered additions here and there..............

I'd be in favor of some contraction of the infrequently used cards, unless of course they fill out a roster for one of the many complete or nearly complete teams here.

Speaking of nearly complete teams, we could use "Pops" Stargell from 1979.
