Try a Bit of EVERY Decade - 7 To Go!!!

How's this for a theme league.......

We do a 12 round live draft where we rotate picking decades in which everyone must make a pick from. The decades will be: 1880's+90's, 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930, 1940, 1950, 1960, 1970, 1980, 1990+2000. There are 11 groupings so the last round will be of all available free agents.

For example,

Round 1

1. 1950's - Mickey Mantle
2. 1950's - Hank Aaron
3. 1950's - Ernie Banks and so on

In addition, there can be as many as four rounds in which the manager with the first pick can declare that every other manager picks a player from the AL and NL from the selected decade.

This means that we'd be drafting anywhere from 12-16 players. Managers must keep a player from each decade that was drafted on their roster at all times. Each manager may draft 1 negro league player at anytime in the draft (except to start a round). The rest of the rosters can be left up to autodraft.

$80 mil DH

What do you guys think?? 8-)

I'm game- should see some interesting draft strategies with the 80M cap. What about having all Negro League players as a 12th round?

Sounds like fun
Would prefer a higher cap w/DH

How do you get 12-16 players drafted?

Round 12 being NeL makes sense.

I assume if u draft Mantle in the 50's decade, then you can't use the 61 Mantle?

A decade is 0-9? 50-59?

Up to 4 rounds where the first person can declare that they pick one NL and one AL player accounts for the up to 16 players. Would that person get to pick both right away or would it ber serpentine for that decade?

Depending on some details......might be interesting.

I'd be in favor of being able to use Mantle '61 for your 50's decade pick.

For example:

I need to pick a 70's player and choose Mike Schmidt, I could use either his 1977 or 1980 card. There shouldn't be too many players that have cards in 3 decades so I don't think this'll be abused plus limiting each All Time Great to just one decade is a little limiting.

Mr. Baseball-

I never thought of this, I'm game for a serpentine round in the two pick rounds.

Personally, I like the idea of each team having 1 Negro Leagues "wild card" that can be chosen at ANY time but am fine with having the 12th round dedicated to that if that's a consensus.

"How do you get 12-16 players drafted?" -rjoh

Becuase there can be as many as 4 double rounds in which each team picks a AL and NL player. This means there could be 0, 1, 2, 3 or 4 rounds like this resulting in anywhere from 12-16 players drafted.

This sounds like it might be fun, even if it has the potential to kill my chances of approaching .500.
