Future card request - RP-only Nel players

Future card request - RP-only Nel players

Postby The Jerk Store » Sat Dec 03, 2011 11:51 pm

I'd like to see some RP only Negro League players added to the ATG player pool. I (and I think I am not alone) would like the ability to field a team of Negro League players only and currently that is not possible due to needing at least 3 RP only players. Could also help out with a lot of theme leagues.

Just an idea

i think the limited role of RPer's in the era of the negro leagues could present a problem with doing that. usually the RPer's were SPer's on their off days. which is why i every negro league SP is also a RP.

I don't think they had relief specialists in the Negro leagues. A lot of times, they'd move a guy like Martin Dihigo from CF to the mound to make a pitching change, and either bring an OF off the bench or move the P to another position and shuffle the defensive alignment as best they could.

Most teams only had 12 or 13 man rosters, since the leagues operated on a shoestring. If they couldn't field nine guys for a game, they would recruit from local talent to fill out the rosters.

Sandlot and semi-pro baseball were a huge thing before 1950. All those teenaged black kids you see today on the corner basketball court were playing baseball then; the NBA and NFL were all white and there were no good black analogs. That's one reason why there was such a depth of star-caliber talent (relative to population size) in Negro league baseball. There was no other sport where the great black athletes of the day could make more than chump change.

how about this for a change -

why do we need to have 3 RP on our roster?
it is a fantasy team and we should be able to manage our bullpen as we see fit.

Can't we consider changing the roster requirement to allow for any RP instead of RP only for our bullpen.

These teams are all like All-Star teams , which usually use starters as relievers.

I'm pretty sure that the SOM NeL cards we have are the only ones there are. I don't think there are any RP-only NeL players. So SOM would need to create some RP-only NeL cards specifically to accommodate this request.

I think I speak for the majority here, I'm just happy / thankful to have Negro League players, period. A lack of RP-only is a limitation I'm more than willing to accept. Theme league rules can accommodate this particular flaw in the system.

Once upon a time it was that way here. :(

While we're at it, why are so many of the new cards simply different seasons for players that are already carded? And why are they all superstars? Those of us who enjoy franchise leagues spanning specific time eras could certainly use some help in having some uncarded regulars from different teams added, particularly in the earlier years.

to add to bontom... would really like to see more COMPLETE teams/season... as it was strictly that way when ATG started.

Would love to see the focus of upcoming adds be to complete some more full rosters, and then be able to sort by team/year.
