Hi guys,
Sorry if the site was down for you for some part of Friday morning. The reason why I didn't say anything about it is because I simply did not know about it. I didn't get any alert from our systems guys, and we didn't receive any emails about it.
Now is this acceptable? Hellllll no. I'm as annoyed by it as you guys are, as I've been fighting for years to get better uptime monitoring for the site, unfortunately to no avail. I can't blame any particular people at SN, and I don't mean to deflect responsibility, because ultimately it is mine, as I am your one and only community advocate. But I'm just laying out how the way things work (or don't work) around here, and there are things that are either out of my control, or beyond my scope as a mortal.
All I can say right now is that things will be changing, believe it or not. I have to be cryptic about this, because I don't have the clearance to say anything more, so kindly don't press me on it at this time - but there will be changes to our hosting provider, our systems will become more accessible to me more directly... things will be changing. Sorry if this isn't enough to satisfy you right now, but... that's all I got at this time. I will say that I am looking forward to this change. And yes, I'll still be around (for better or worse).
Deepdrive, you're right, the frenzy bug thing is also completely unacceptable and I'm sorry for your troubles. I've been discussing the general issue with Simon31 by email, but I didn't receive any emails about any particular league over the past week. It's a weird problem because sometimes it works - last I heard from Simon31 his last scheduled frenzy league worked just fine. I do promise to lick this ASAP though because, again, it is unacceptable.
I try not to worry about what my reputation or impression is among any of you, and I try not to publicly respond to personal attacks. I will say that although I agree that this is mostly a dream job, it doesn't pay me enough to be able to support my family, so I have a second job. But you know what, it doesn't even matter what other job(s) I have (by the way I haven't touched the comic strip I do in half a year). What matters is: do I give Strat-O-Matic Online every bit of my passion and devotion that I can? I think so. It looks like this passion comes across to some of you, and not to some others. That's fine. Everyone has a right to their own opinion. I just respectfully request that you leave my personal life out of this.
Thanks.
