It might also be interesting to subdivide the ATG card sets into, say,

ATG 7 - with a focus on the greatest teams for individual franchises and eras

ATG 8 - with a focus on great player seasons

The card sets don't need to overlap. The above divide, with about 80 teams in the ATG 7 set, would have somewhere around 2000 players, and the ATG 8 set could be pared down to about 2500 by (a) deleting the el cheapo roster fillers that rarely get used, (b) limiting the set to about 3 cards per player, and (c) removing most of the overlaps.

I'd also be in favor of contraction of rarely used (aka [i:cfd0cc2e66]useless[/i:cfd0cc2e66]) cards which simply clutter up the set. That would make searching easier.

Among nearly completed teams, how about Yogi Berra's 1961 card, when he played mostly LF? Also, how about Elston Howard's and Bob Cerv's 1956?

I wouldn't want to see a contraction only because all the cards are useful when you take into account theme leagues and franchise leagues. I do think it's almost redundant to add superstars with great cards if we already have one or two of their great seasons...for example i love Hornsby but have been finding his 11.53 card to be the most useful one. I'd rather add players who are currently cardless in the ATG set or upgrade any all time greats who currently have nothing to show but mediocre cards.

I agree Doug. I dont want to contract any cards, they come in handy for my franchise and theme leagues. And I dont mind having 2 or 3 card options for players. But our pool is huge now.................

What we TRULY need is the ability to search not only by era (ie Post-War Dodgers) but also by LA or Brooklyn. We really need to be able to sort by year or period of years, etc so that it is easier for Franchise type theme leagues.
