It's a shame that human nature makes money THE status symbol for athletes. It is not a greed for money so much as it is a desire to be known as the best and paid as the best. Too bad it hamstrings so many franchises....whether they get the player or lose the player.............

The Angels signed CJ Wilson as well...i was rooting for Pujols to stay in St Louis..i know he got the vault signing with the Angels but Albert was an icon with the Cardinals..200 plus million to stay with the Cardinals wasn't enough?

I just saw a post on twitter that had calculations of 200 mill in St Louis would be worth approx 323 mill in Los Angeles.

If One Win Above Replacement is worth $5M on the open market, Albert Pujols has been underpaid by about $340M for his career so far.

Meaning, even if he does nothing for the Angels, he's still been undercompensated for his career by almost $90M--if 1 WAR is worth $5M on the open market...

88.7 bWAR x $5M = $443.5M (potential wages)
$443.5M - $104M (actual wages) = $339.5M
$339.5M - $250M (Angels deal) = $89.5M

He had to go the the American league to DH if he wants to play for another 10 years.

Sad day for Cards fans, of which I am one.

I just get the feeling the Cardinals never wanted to resign him. They could have had him for much less had they worked it out prior to this season. Their offer to Pujols now feels like the Brewers' $100M offer to Sabathia a couple years - a huge amount of money, they knew it wouldn't be enough, and they didn't want to spend that much on one player - but at least they could tell their fan base that they tried to resign him.

If Fielder gets signed out of the NL Central also, the Pirates' and Reds' pitching staffs will be found passed out against an empty half barrel in some farmers' field outside of Youngstown.
