PKB, I know everybody wants to get paid and paid handsomely; I dont deny that at all. I'm talking about the difference between getting paid an insane amount of money by the Cardinals (220m or so?) to getting paid an even more insane amount (254m) by the Angels. Can 3m more a year mean THAT much?[/quote:c8b654e76e]
Well, let's see. Take off Lozano's 10% and it's 2.7M more a year. Another 5% to a business manager/accountant and we're down to 2.55 extra. Then, give the government their 3rd, down to $1.71M per year. California taxes are higher than Missouri, so take that down another 5% (off the 2.55) and we're down to $1.6. Now, that buys how much more for the Family Church of St. Louis, or for kids with Down syndrome, or for people back in the DR. Or for your own kids? Yes, that's a marginal $1.6 a year (really, we're talking 13.5 in take home, maybe in LA... more like 12.25 in St. Louis, something like that).
But add some things to LA. Bigger market (maybe, not convinced from my time living in LA and St. Louis that Anaheim, LA Team #2 is a better market than St. Louis) so more endorsement opportunities, more exposure. Bigger churches to get involved with. St. Louis Family Church is big, but on a St. Louis scale. There's a church in LA that owns the Great Western Forum... lot bigger churches to work your ministry through. I don't pretend to have any insight into what makes religious people tick, but it does seem to motivate some behavior.
