Another early success story. Duffy is god-like here.

joe the jet ratings. Pfft.

Paying someone else to tell you what players to pick in an online game you already pay for?

Isn't half the fun making the determination of a team composition?
The other half is winning, yes, and I realize the ratings prove at helping that when used correctly, but...

You mean to say that some (many?) of the Strat superstars are purchasing performance-enhancing ratings? Are their wins and titles aided by their use of those performance-enhancing ratings and not due to their own skills and abilities? It must be pretty tempting to purchase them in order to win a few more games.

I wonder how many out there are using them? I wonder how many could have won just as many games and titles without them? I wonder how many are winning only because they use them? I wonder how many should be excluded from the Strat Hall of Fame due to the use of these performance-enhancing ratings?

Can someone who plays it straight using only their own baseball knowledge and analytic skills really compete with those on performance-enhancing ratings? Could they win Barnstormers or the Tourney? I wonder.

The answer is yes, in a single season a non user can compete with the enhanced users.

:D

I'm sure Joe the Jet users can all find a "flawed" or "undervalued" team that beat them out that they would never have allowed to be assembled under their watch.

My winning pct has [b:517597b4ab]declined[/b:517597b4ab] since I started using Jet's ratings. Although I actually don't use them that much,. There is not that much difference between these ratings and diamond dope, they are just more comprehensive, factoring in stuff like defense, running etc. Where they are really useful is in finding good values e.g. rating /cost.

I assume Macnole's comments are tongue in cheek. If not, well let's just say that they aren't terribly insightful. Just like diamond dope, the Jet's ratings give you information, albeit more of it. They are basically a shortcut to having to rate everything by yourself. It is up to you how to use it.

I don't get what is so wrong about Joe the Jet ratings. I'd heard of them before and looked them up last night for the first time. Like Petro said, they are just information.

Sounds like this guy has spent a lot of time and energy coming up with a way to put better and efficient teams on the field. He's willing to share his information. He wants to be compensated. What's the problem?

If they were free I, and everyone else who has ever been to Diamond Dope, would, could, and should use them. Just because he's charging for them shouldn't make a difference AFAIC.

I don't think I'll shell out for them any time soon because, to be honest, I have a hard time justifying the amount of money I've already spent on this game. But it certainly isn't cheating or anything of the sort. It is a tool that is there for anyone to use if they are so inclined.

And, if I lose another WS game 7 I might cave.

YMMV

TIC
firmly

But JTJ product is not the same as DD. JTJ does specific team analysis against opponent makeups etc. Much more tailored, much more black-box to end result with proprietary, effective analyses. DD counts card results--extremely helpful, but not the same as this.

Nothing wrong with it still. I would buy it; not avoiding out of principle, just out of cheapness.
