The fact that Arky barely falls under the magic 600 pa's really stinks. But at least that should keep his price down a little. I really wish som would go by there actual pa's instead of just adding ab's and walks.

Arky's new card will likely be priced similar to Josh Gibson's.

Also, I mentioned on Friday that I was going to run some cards by you today. These players were good players, but the card requested was an outlier that places it in the upper elite of the ATG stratosphere (or at least much higher than their true place in history warrants). ATG has been populated by all sorts of flukes and outlier seasons since its inception, so adding them wouldn't be unusual; I only hesitate because during teaser season, there's so much attention called upon each individual card. And I know that in addition to the "more cards" camp that wants the eye candy, there's the purist camp that would like to see ATG reflect baseball history as authentically as possible. My perpetual job is to balance the two - emotionally leaning towards the latter, but being responsible for pleasing everyone, including the former.

Anyway, without further hedging, here:

- Dutch B. Leonard (1914) - .96 ERA, .89 WHIP
- Claude Hendrix (1914) - 1.69 ERA, .94 WHIP
- Vean Gregg (1911) - 1.80 ERA, 1.06 WHIP

Pick two; you'll see them over the next few days and the remaining one will be saved for January's batch; or if everyone unanimously threatens me with physical violence I'll forget about 'em.

Nice Lonnie Smith card, but the 1989 card is better...

Between his card and Rhoden's this is turning into ATPG. (All Time Pretty Good)

I have a problem with the Hendrix card. It's not from the major leagues. We don't have any other Federal League cards do we??

I like the idea of adding the Leonard and Hendrix card.

thanks again Bernie for the wonderful job you are doing.

As for picking two i will go with the obvious:
Dutch B. Leonard (1914) - .96 ERA, .89 WHIP
- Claude Hendrix (1914) - 1.69 ERA, .94 WHIP

Also at the risk of becoming a pain in the rear i again request another harry heilmann card if you don't mind; either; 1921, 1923 or 1927.

thanks for reading this post

I'd go for Hendrix and Leonard...

I don't have the 1914-1915 seasons on my CD rom but the Federal League is recognized as a defunct major league.

Hey, you know it's a fallacy to argue that "All-Time Greats" means every player has to be a Great, and every card for every player has to be his Greatest. Bob Uecker's in the set after all. ;)

I don't know off-hand (I'd guess that we do), but if he'd be the only exception, I think that'd be a valid reason to not add him.
