Not crazy about getting non HOF players in set who have cards so good they make even the elite HOFers look like second rate cards. That is especially true of Federal league cards which nexrad generously describes as AAAA players.

I could care less whether a card belongs to a Hall-of-Famer or not, I just want Hall-of-Fame type cards.

The more choices, the better.

Leonard and Gregg.

I don't particularly see a need for any of the three new cards under discussion, but I'm strongly opposed to the use of any Federal League cards. While it may have been considered a "major" league at the time, the caliber of play simply was not at the same level. There were no HOF-caliber players who played in the Federal League during their prime-- instead, there were just a handful who played at the very end or very beginning of their careers. Offensively, Benny Kauff was the dominant force of the league, putting up Speaker/ Cobb-like stats-- but when he returned to the NL in 1916 at age 26, he hit .264/ .348/ .408 -- not quite the second coming of Cobb.

If additional cards from this era are added, I'd prefer that they be more representative of their actual careers - 1913 for Gregg, 1917 for Hendrix, and 1919 for Leonard. (I realize this isn't the question on the table).

[quote:07f01c9703="bernieh"]- Dutch B. Leonard (1914) - .96 ERA, .89 WHIP
- Claude Hendrix (1914) - 1.69 ERA, .94 WHIP
- Vean Gregg (1911) - 1.80 ERA, 1.06 WHIP

Pick two; you'll see them over the next few days and the remaining one will be saved for January's batch; or if everyone unanimously threatens me with physical violence I'll forget about 'em.[/quote:07f01c9703]

Leonard and Gregg

No to Hendrix as a Federal Leaguer. Both now and in January.

It seems that Strat doesn't have a good way to normalize those
players against the level they and others were playing at.

As for threats of physical violence to keep Hendrix out. How about
I throw pepper at you until you sneeze. Does that count as physical
violence?

You can get SOM to print up a nice card, based on your stats, for $6, I think. :)
