Thanks for the opinions on the pitchers I asked about yesterday. Looks like there's a reasonable consensus that we should try to avoid Federal League players from that era if we can. So here's the 2 other guys:

A couple more tomorrow, which should come close to covering the whole batch, and then the cards debut on Thursday!

Also, soon after this batch is out the door, I'll be posting an official thread where I'll be inviting you guys to go through our other sets like Fantasim, '70s, and '80s, to pick out specific cards you'd like to see in ATG and I'll do my best to get them into subsequent batches. As I explained before, I'm running out of slam dunks in my stash and thus I've arranged to make poaching the older sets easier. Just don't start blurting out requests here, since they'll just get lost in the shuffle. Wait for my official thread!

Why doesn't Dutch Leonard have a Reliever rating? He started 25 games and relieved in 11 games.

Vean Gregg started in 26 games and relieved in 8 games. I would have thought he too would have a Reliever rating.

Is there a way to get to the player listings and browse the cards for these without creating a team for them. A link?

Couldn't we say the same thing about the American League when it formed in 1901? There were players who came over from the National League and obviously benefited from it.

You had various defunct "major leagues" in the 19th century that are recognized as "major league" by MLB The American Association, Players League,Union Association to just name 3 The PL was only around for one season in 1890 and the UA for 1884 and both are accepted as major league. The National Association is the only league i'm aware of that is disputed as being "major league". From what i've read MLB includes the Federal League as major league.

Very pleased with Carty. :D Even though he's basically a dh, the two points of injury help create an interesting strategic GM dilemma regarding his use. More chance to go right and more chance to go wrong. That's what the game is all about IMHO.

Re: Federal League players.
Any argument you can make against Fed League players, you could probably make equally against Negro League players.

I am in favor of adding Fed League players.

I disagree strongly, PKB. There is one argument you can make about the Federal League players that simply is not valid for Negro league players.

Federal league players played against a diluted talent pool, with many of the players demonstrably not up to the caliber of major league replacement level players of the day. Many of them later rejoined, or previously had played in, the major leagues. Few or none of those players matched their Federal League performance.

This argument is simply not true for the Negro leaguers. Those invited to join the major leagues after 1946, for the most part, became stars. The Negro league pool, although possibly not the equal of the major league talent pool of the day, cannot be demonstrably shown to be so. The Negro leaguers and major leaguers frequently competed on an equal footing in Cuba in the winter, and the Negro leaguers, if anything, got the better of their white peers.
