I look at the list and ...

I don't see any sure fire HOFers other than Bagwell but he's tainted so no vote from me. If I set the bar using current HOFers, I don't see much that makes me want to vote for any of the hitters and only Lee Smith as a pitcher. I'm very lukewarm on Larkin and Trammel - very nice but not sure they are HOF caliber. Am I being too hard on this group?

mcgwire, really? i don't see how a position player with 1626 hits in his career can be voted into the HoF. i don't care if he does have 500+ home runs.

Yes, absolutely. I'm not sure why Bagwell is tainted either.

For me:

Bagwell
Larkin
mcGwire
Raines
Smith
Trammell
Walker
Martinez
Murphy
Mattingly

Bagwell....that's it. I am old school and I can't believe my eyes when i see some of the names you guys list for hall of famers. Evans and Whitaker? You guys need your heads examined. First off calm down using all these new stats. I have watched more games for so many years...I am afraid to admit. These stats are impossible to use comparing players from different generations particularly when about a quarter of todays pitchers are minor league pitchers just filling out rosters because of the amount of teams. My goodness if Mantle and Mays got to hit in today's cracker jack stadiums they would be hitting 70-80 hrs every year. If you want to know what the HOF is supposed to be look up the picture of the original inductees...that is all you need to know. Anyway that is my 2 cents.

And here is Exhibit #1 why it's so hard to get 75% of the vote. It's nearly impossible if enough people have only one or two names on their ballot.
