For those who love to mock trade offers

That's funny. I got an identical offer. From the same guy. Who everybody knows.

Actually makes sense to me. Sounds like the guy is just looking for cap space. He should make sure that it works within the salary cap, though.

I got the same type offer from the same owner:

Cash Available Now: $140,000
Cash Available After Trade: Trade impossible:
not enough cash available

I'm assuming he's trying to be funny.

You've now met Merm. Trade spam king. He spammed me too. Offered Fydrich for Ray Caldwell.

He offered the trade because he is trying to free up cash for more hitting and he wants all nickel starters. Plus he's the biggest trading jerk you will ever meet. Purely self-centered. I almost always just ignore him.

OK, now I get it. Neilsen was to be the cornerstone of his wicked awesome pitching staff:

In the future, I think I will immediately hit delete without even looking at the trade offer, from this particular manager. Thanks

I don't know. Looks like the dude has a plan. A bad plan probably. I don't think it will work. But it's a plan. In light of this the trade offers he made make sense.

Of course if they didn't work under the cap for both teams then he should have know it was impossible, but you can't really fault the guy for trying to implement it.

Notwithstanding, of course, Petro's prior experience with the guy, which I have absolutely no reason to doubt.

I personally have no problems doing deals with Merm. We discuss offers, do some back and forth, and sometimes trade, sometimes don't trade. I was hit with the same type of offer in that league, Fidrych for Lerch. I declined it, and we had a short discussion about our respective plans for our teams.

Everybody has their own strategy for a team, and we are all self-centered, to differing degrees, when we propose trades. I tend to be pretty conservative about trades, and will decline many more trade offers than I accept, and will only offer trades when I see a specific need for my team. I also do my autodrafts with a full team in mind, whereas other managers will do autodrafts with the intent to pick up trade pieces and work up the team through trades. Lots of different approaches. Merm seems to be more from the latter group, and will do the buckshot at the barn door approach to trades. Lots of offers, but some of them eventually get worked out to being useful for both managers. At least that has been my experience with him, and an overall good one.

Merm's plan is obviously to go after a HR record. Which explains why he wanted me to trade him McGwire. He'll probably lose 90 games and he's in
Weinberg's division which should make his otherwise mediocre team competitive.

All I can say is..."Wow!" Someone tipped me off that Petro and others were bashing me on the message boards...I usually do not spend time here but thought I would respond to a couple of things....

Yes, I have a $100M Team with all $0.50 Pitching Staff and HR Hitters. The reason I did that was for the fun of it (for my own personal enjoyment). I am not looking for records and I do not expect to win the championship (though it would be fun to do so).

When buidling the team, I drafted 4 $0.50 Starters along with Babe Ruth's pitching card. I did not get Ruth, but got the Bird instead.

In $100M Leagues, often managers do not get what they want and sometimes need to change the dynamic of the team. The Waivers were coming up, but I could not drop the Bird (cause I only had 5 starters)...so I offered him to everyone in the league for anyone they wanted to trade (I made a trade offer to each player).

Some of the trades exceeded the cap. However, for those of you who do not know...if you get a trade that exceeds the cap and the trade arrives to you as invalid...if you drop a player, and the cap is now clear, that same trade becomes valid....So in theory, if you wanted the Bird for a $0.50 Starter and you had no salary cap...that trade would arrive to you as invalid...but if you dropped a player you did not want that was about the same price as Bird, you could actually accept the offer.

So, my thought was...maybe someone wants him and needed to change there team around and perhaps have to drop someone in the process. I myself, dropped Yaz and freed up a ton of cap space to pick up HR Hitters in the Waiver period.

I thought I was doing anyone, who wanted the Bird, a favor, by offering him for nothing. In addition, I would free up cap space to pick up HR Hitters. I did not expect a negative thread about me.

No games, no issues...just a simple trade that could be accepted, declined or countered.

Keep that in mind before you get sucked into a Mob of people that do not have anything nice to say.
