Underused single-card players

Postby supertyphoon » Fri Dec 16, 2011 5:06 pm

Here is my list of most desirable at each position (Fantasim), why they are rarely used now, and a reason or two why I think they should be added:

C - Bill Dickey, 15-game injury risk (3/11 rolls). Poach 1937 and his PAs are more than 600. Use goes way up.

1B - Mickey Vernon. 599 PAs = 15-game injury risk. Poach 1953 when he led league in BA and 2B.

2B - Buddy Myer. Poor defense, current card not representative. Poach 1935 for bullet-proof batting champ.

3B - Bob Elliott. 15-game injury risk (3/11 rolls). Poach 1947 MVP season and use skyrockets in thin position.

SS - Rabbit Maranville. 15-game injury risk, sub-par season. Poach 1922 for 0 injury and better stats.

OF - Cy Williams. Current card not representative, injury risk. Poach 1922 which is closer to career stats.

OF - Cy Seymour. 15-game injury risk. Poach 1905 for MVP season, will become very popular in small ball.

OF - Max Carey. 15-game injury risk. Poach 1922 and becomes bulletproof with better SB pct.

DH - Bob Johnson. Horrible defense. Poach 1934, better year, younger.

(amended) SP - Frank E. Smith. No card at all in ATG. 1909 was an outstanding workhorse year for him, lead league in nearly all counting stats, and a 0.95 WHIP to boot.

RP - Tom Abernathy. High WHIP. Poach 1967 for career year.[/b]

I guess the one that stands out to me is everyday eddie:
2001 Eddie Guardado

Besides a good card, he's got the nickname going for him.
And he was traded for a Hamburger once.

#2 choice, kind of like to see a card that emphasizes Eddie
Yosts nickname more:

1950 or 1959 Eddie Yost

Other Ideas (but just ideas):

1903 Roger Bresnahan
1922 Max Carey
1932 Spuds Davis
1935 Buddy Myer
1938 Harlond Clift
1949 Eddie Joost
1987 Geno Petralli
1987 Kevin Seitzer
1993 Jim Eisenriech
1993 John Kruk
1995 Chuck Knoblauch

1915 or 1918 Fred Toney
1972 Steve Kline
1976 Randy Jones
1978 Craig Swan
1990 or 1992 Terry Mulholland
1991 Jose Rijo (or any year 90-93)
1997 or 1998 Rick Reed

Some love for the Reds...and a few others

Postby Ragnarokpc » Fri Dec 16, 2011 6:17 pm

Mario Soto '82 or '83
Jose Rijo '91, '92, and/or '93
Chris Sabo '91
Barry Larkin '96
Dave Concepcion '79
Eric Davis '87
Cory Snyder '86 and/or '88
Dwight Evans '82 and '87

That's all for now . . . tried to keep it to "All Time Greats" and not just players I liked . . . the main thing for me is there are a lot of players like Snyder who are represented, but not with their best seasons, which seems silly. He was a ROY and his card in ATG is kind of atrocious. Davis '87 is his best OPS season, and the one where he SHOULD have been the first 40-40 man (way better alternative than Canstinko imo). Soto could use some dominant years and Rijo really ought to be represented AT ALL. And Larkin's MVP season is a shoe in as well . . .

Please, please Bernie, we need a balanced Clemente card: 1967.

He hit .357 against R, and .349 against lefties! PLUS, it was his highest batting average in his career. Finally, Roberto would get his true just desserts in SOM. :D :D :D :D

I'd love Dick Dietz 1970. He hit .357 with a .397 OBP and a .670 slugging pct. against left handers!!! People would obviously use him as a DH in lower caps but some people (me) would take a chance on his poor defense and use him at catcher. Or you could platoon him at DH in higher caps. Anyhow think about it and keep up the good work Bernie. Merry Christmas!

SCOTT ROLEN!!!!! We desperately need third basemen so why not!! Unlike many other guys, he actually is an All-Time-Great and I've been calling for him forever!

Jorge Posada- I do hate the Yankees but come on this guys been a stud and a Hall-of-Famer

Magglio Ordonez- Please when he was with the White Sox

Like Andy, I'd like to see more cards for players who are now not represented rather than more cards for players who already have multiple cards. But, if it's true that the only ones we can poach are those from 1970 or later, my first choice would be Mark Davis' 1989 season.

But if there is any chance of getting more players from earlier years, I'd sure like to see some new names.

BernieH, thanks so much for asking our input.

Here are 10 Fanta Favorites I would like to see - (they will likely be pricey  )
Bill Dickey 1937
Alan Ashby 1987
Earl Averill 1936
Harry Hooper 1920 over 600PA (...he was very good, but is rarely used)
Larry Doby 1950
Travis Jackson 1929 (again over 600PA)
Eddie Miller 1940 (or/and 1947)
Billy Jurges 1939 (1937 is good too)
Jim Maloney 1963
Phil Regan 1966

very hard to limit it to 10

perhaps you can reverse import some players [b:97e2e8ec42]into[/b:97e2e8ec42] Fantasim :!:
