Time for transparency.

Time for transparency.

Bernie is writing new code for this game. What a wonderful opportunity to bring all aspects of the rules under which we play into light. There should be no further need for confusion on any part of the game. We should now be able to know exactly what the program is doing for home field advantage, etc..

It would also be a plus to have individual leagues have control over which rules they wish to use. I know nothing about programming, so I am not certain how much trouble the league rule toggling would be.

I do realize that there are those among us that do not want clarification on the rules matter. I cannot even begin to understand why that would be, but I don't see why some not wishing for transparency should disallow those of us who want to know, from knowing.

I am jumping to the conclusion that new code means a chance to clear up the questions that many of us have about this game, my apologies if I am off base on this.

Documentation is separate from programming. It's another job unto itself.

You may be disappointed. The site which Bernie is rebuilding is a front end to the strato code. I am not sure that rebuilding the site fully includes rewriting the strato code. That would be a departure from policy by the strato company.

While I agree with your sentiment, Bernie can't share SOM's code or exactly how it works with us.

Understandable. I am not interested in knowing trade secrets, just what the rules we play under are.

I believe SOM would consider how they determine home field advantage as their trade secret. They tell us it happens. They tell us that it adds about .01 onto the batting average for the home team. I don't think they will tell us how it adds .01 to the home team.

...But I believe there are a bunch of other Plusses and Minusses that exist as well-
It would be great to know what they all are;
that way we could actually understand the parameters we are playing under, which I dont think we do.

There are a lot of topics that fall under transparency, some of
which have nothing to do with the strat secret codes. Progress
into making it clearer would be a good. I would prefer to see
those aspects of the game which directly affect us (the managers)
decisions and possibly even give us more control over those
decisions would be the best to see... especially the decisions that
big league managers get and we don't. And more efficient means
to set in place the decisions we make.

What comes to mind first is both more bullpen control and more day
to day lineup control and both could be in the works. There have been
a couple of threads where Nev and others have discussed more
controls over how the bullpen gets used, especially regarding giving
the hook to the current pitcher.

A more detailed lineup process would also be nice. I would think you need to separate the lineup makeup process and the lineup choice process: the lineup makeup process would probably need to
be exetened: now vr.s righty, vrs lefty. more
advanced: basic vrs. righty, basic vrs. lefty, alternative vrs. lefty 1,
alt. vrs. righty 1, etc.. Then a lineup selection process that could be
set once a week (like the starting pitcher setup), but would include
a small selection process based on pitching hand, left-right pitching balance and park (although the later is implicit in the order list). Being
able to have 6 or 8 lineups (3 or 4 each way) and having a day-to-day
choice to use one vrs. R up to xR, one to use over xR, one to use vrs
L up to xL and one to use over xL would give us choice over pitcher
makeup and park makeup (the park makeup because each day the
park would be known for the game it was being set for). That would
be progress.

How PH and PR are used, not used, more specific control over
aggressive or less aggressive settings on the team. What inning
a defensive replacement comes in with a lead, how big a lead it
has to be... basically if the MLB manager would make the decision,
then allowing the strat managers to make that decision in a more
controlled and informed environment are all desirables.

Understanding things that don't or won't affect our decisions or control
would have much less value. Strat can keep its secrets that don't
apply to the manager decision making process, IMHO.

But anyway,... I think Bob Boone's a call for more transparency is
good thing.

Yeah, I want to know about the code that says everytime I get a leadoff triple, the next 2 batters must strikeout or popout!

Exactly. I am not asking for the 11 secret herbs and spices here. I also like what River Field View has said.

Selecting aggressive for base running over normal could ruin a team for all we know. We just need to understand why we should choose one setting or the other when setting up our team. If aggressive means run if safe changes are 1-15 and normal means 1-16, just tell us. How can it be that important to the company that we not know this?
