There are a lot of topics that fall under transparency, some of
which have nothing to do with the strat secret codes. Progress
into making it clearer would be a good. I would prefer to see
those aspects of the game which directly affect us (the managers)
decisions and possibly even give us more control over those
decisions would be the best to see... especially the decisions that
big league managers get and we don't. And more efficient means
to set in place the decisions we make.
What comes to mind first is both more bullpen control and more day
to day lineup control and both could be in the works. There have been
a couple of threads where Nev and others have discussed more
controls over how the bullpen gets used, especially regarding giving
the hook to the current pitcher.
A more detailed lineup process would also be nice. I would think you need to separate the lineup makeup process and the lineup choice process: the lineup makeup process would probably need to
be exetened: now vr.s righty, vrs lefty. more
advanced: basic vrs. righty, basic vrs. lefty, alternative vrs. lefty 1,
alt. vrs. righty 1, etc.. Then a lineup selection process that could be
set once a week (like the starting pitcher setup), but would include
a small selection process based on pitching hand, left-right pitching balance and park (although the later is implicit in the order list). Being
able to have 6 or 8 lineups (3 or 4 each way) and having a day-to-day
choice to use one vrs. R up to xR, one to use over xR, one to use vrs
L up to xL and one to use over xL would give us choice over pitcher
makeup and park makeup (the park makeup because each day the
park would be known for the game it was being set for). That would
be progress.
How PH and PR are used, not used, more specific control over
aggressive or less aggressive settings on the team. What inning
a defensive replacement comes in with a lead, how big a lead it
has to be... basically if the MLB manager would make the decision,
then allowing the strat managers to make that decision in a more
controlled and informed environment are all desirables.
Understanding things that don't or won't affect our decisions or control
would have much less value. Strat can keep its secrets that don't
apply to the manager decision making process, IMHO.
But anyway,... I think Bob Boone's a call for more transparency is
good thing.
