2010 All Bargain Team

2010 All Bargain Team

Postby Jerlins » Wed Dec 21, 2011 10:05 pm

I'm mostly playing in keeper leagues now, so my auto-draft teams are few. However, I've got an opinion on what I consider the bargains of the set, so why not share. Anyway, feel free to add yours:

C- Varitek-sure he gets hurt a lot, but I've seen nothing but strong #'s every league.

1st- Konerko- While not a bargain in the $ sense, he's put up similar #'s to the 5 players who cost more.

2nd- Prado- Another high $ player, but his ability to move all around the field makes him invaluable.

SS- Gonzalez- Low BA and OBP, but his defense won't kill you, he plays everyday, and he can pop them with the best of them.

3rd- Haven't found a bargain here at all. I've witnessed nothing but "get what you pay for" in every league.

LF- Kubel- More of a dh type but still good numbers for just over a buck.

CF- Young- Good pop, good defense, good speed.

RF- Fukodome- Not glamorous, but gets the job done.

DH- Guerrero- IMO, THE BARGAIN of the set!!!

SP- Anibel Sanchez, Pelfrey if playing in a hitters park.

RP- Hensley

Zobrist has been better than good for me. Hits in the low .225 with high OBP and gets hits when I need them. The fact that he can play RF and 2B very well is a big plus. Every time I turn around he is in the rally.

If you can handle...

His horrible defense, I like Viciedo at 3B. He puts up great numbers in almost any park - especially vs the leftside. He's a killer in a HR Park esp. those with hugh BP HR's vs the right side. He can cover 1B as well or be a very good DH vs the leftside (Or even the rightside.) I like to use him as a DH vs the leftside and use Brent Morel at 3B vs that side.

And he can start at 3B vs the right side and backup 1B, play there or DH vs the rightside as well. I agree with you on Guerrero as the bargain in the set at DH. But Thames puts up big numbers vs the rightside if you can't get him. And Pat Burrell is a close 3rd choice for a RHH.

But in a RH Park, I like a V. Wells platoon with Beltran for a little more money than Young.

A Gonzalez...

I have never had him, but in a LH or HR Park, he puts up better numbers than other higher priced 1B. And the 1e8 on D doesn't hurt either.

Manny, great obp. for under 3mill. Many cheap options to back him up when he goes down. Herrera, versatile, gets on base and solid D for 2mill. There are alot more but don't have time this morning to list them all.

A cheap DH combo that saves you ALOT of $...

Aviles/Castro

Both have well over 30 hit chances and always do well for me.

And since this is the "All Bargain Thread", their price saves you a ton of $.

I agree with you on Prado, but IMO I wouldn't call him a "bargain".

Another little gem of a bargain has been Infante. :D

Totally agree on Veritek, at the right park he can be a monster if he stays healthy.

I've used Randy Wolf as a super effective 4th starter in pitcher's parks, and I've seen others do it as well. Not much of a "secret value", but Derek Holland can put up some great seasons at certain parks too.

In the OF, I think Tyler Colvin is a huge bargain, although quite injury prone. In that same vein, I like Brian Roberts too.

Bonifacio is an awesome platoon guy and is pretty versatile at it as well (3b and all OF positions). One of the best base runners in the set too.

Kelly Johnson rocks for a DH

Adam Laroche makes a great value for lower in the order

Bad D but Micahel Young doesnt get injured and has great slugging for his price

A J Pierzynski is a steal at C for a platoon

I like Ian Stewart at 3B. Strikes out a ton, but good defense and decent power.

Espinosa at 2B is a great value. No OBP but tons of power and good defense.

Janish is a good value at SS. I also like the value you get with Pennington.

LaRue is a good value for a platoon at C.

As for pitchers, Takahashi is one of my favorites and Moylan might be the best .50 pitcher I've seen.

Carlos Quentin gives decent value, too.

Wilson Ramos consistently hits over .400 as a platoon catcher or DH.
Similarly, Josh Fields is amazing at DH as a platoon partner. These players are both in the Unleashed set.

Omar Infante is a solid value at 3B, as has already been mentioned. I'm ok with a 3e18 at 3B if he's hitting .300
