ONLY players with cards between '78 and '88 can be used (which means Tom Terrific, Pete and Yaz are out, even though they played in the 80s).

ALL players on your roster must be carded 78-88, including your bench cheapies.

Great theme idea! I've reviewed the player pool and the talent is a little thin. I like the idea of going to 1989 as well, but would also like to include 1977, which includes some good players at skill positions like Fisk at catcher and Cedeno in CF, and includes some decent pitchers who remained key players in the '80s like Blyleven, Sutton, John, Hooton and Candelaria.

Also, are we allowed to put the cheapest version of a player on our draft card, regardless of year, so long as the player on the final roster is from the right time period?

I'll consider the idea, but I've had problems in the past with changing things after signup. My main concern is that we have enough players to populate rosters. If we do, then I'm inclined to say let's keep the league the way it is.

To clarify, you have to use player cards from 78 to 88. So you can't use a player's other years. This means that if you want carew, you can't use his pre-1978 cards. I think this honestly would be best as a 60M league but those are notoriously hard to fill.

1977-1989 gives you a little better player pool to choose from. Plus being an auto-draft if you get killed you have really NO chance to pick up any players. Just my thoughts.

I'd back an expansion to include 1977 to 1989, but I'm in either way.... even ok with a change to 60 million if you think that will help with playability.

I agree with what Frank said.

If you get hammered in the AD, there's very little hope of recovery.

Only other option, if we're not gonna include more years, is a Live Draft.

I agree that adding 77-89 doesn't add or subtract a great deal from the league (we get Rob Dibble, for one thing, and a few 90s players). I'm up for adding 77 and 89 if no one has a problem with that.

Live draft: I am willing to do this, if everyone else wants it.

Amended live draft: I am also not averse to an amended version of a live draft, where we get a protected core of players (say 4 or 6?), then run the AD. This ensures everyone has some prime picks before creating a roster. (by the way, we're still 4 short of having a league at all)
