Ironman catchers in live draft leagues -- BAD NEWS!

Postby The Last Druid » Sat Dec 31, 2011 4:29 pm

That league was from started last March. The indestructible Mauer went right over my head there.

Salt, you weren't in that league.

I only saw four messages in the league mail, all quite innocuous from the Vegetarian Zombies, who won the league. If there were more messages either I deleted them or wasn't privy to them. Love to know what they were.

Sounds like what Morpheus might be saying is that whatever was said might have been said by Don, i.e. what goes around comes around. But I am not certain of that interpretation, just seems logical.

I am new to Strat here at TSN (although I have been playing Strat for more than 30 years) and I have never done a live draft. I understand the rule about 2 catchers and 3 pure relievers completely but I am foggy about the rule on being able to drop a player's card for another card of the same player. Is that a rule violation? Thanks...

I have a slightly related question. I recently did my 3rd Live Draft through the TSN live draft and noticed that it did not register Oscar Heavy Johnson as a Catcher at all and actually forced me to take a 3rd catcher. I am planning on playing Johnson at Catcher, not trying to skirt any rules. Is it possible to fix this problem. Johnson is a NEL so only has one card and Catcher is an option....don't see how this happened.

thanks

Not at all. The issue was is it ethical to do so multiple times in a season, like when a player gets injured. Consensus was that it is okay, certainly not against the rules. The consensus wasn't by any means unanimous though, and like everything else here, there were many heated opinions.

HAL does some strange stuff with player eligibility. He's definitely okay as a catcher and I have seen him used as the main guy there.

yes, but my question is "why did the draft app. make me select a 3rd catcher with my last pick?"..... apparently it's not "seeing" Heavy Johnson as a Catcher.

So would you drop a hurt Robin Yount for a different Yount card mid season? Would that anger managers? I value your opinion Petrosian you seem like one of the real good guys (of many) who knows the game and the TSN rules.

the better examples are Larry Walker and Ken Griffey Jr. seen their '94 cards dropped for others a couple of times. It may seem shady, but IS done in Live Draft Leagues with no Salary Cap.

Salt,

League was Friday Live .. back in March of 2011, and no you weren't in it.

The context I am referring to is in the current league (one you are in) .. where a newer manager was given a team by TSN (Due to draft issues?) and he dropped high value players. I am posting as they were sent to all managers in the league ..

Messages were:
[quote:a8c41f6690]well its not really league guidelines it is just
common sense not to drop 10m players for 6m
players. Really, does someone need to tell
you that? If so, here it is.[/quote:a8c41f6690]

Response:
[quote:a8c41f6690]Fortunately I apologized for my blunder --
otherwise, DonFESQ might have felt the need to
insult me. Whew. Close call.[/quote:a8c41f6690]

Last message:
[quote:a8c41f6690]What was your blunder that you apologized for?
You were talking about not being aware of
guidelines and etiquette and some such. How
about just don't drop 10m players for 6m
players. If you are insulted by that I don't
know much more to say other than please join
more of my leagues.[/quote:a8c41f6690]

It was only after this exchange that the catcher issue was raised in this league .. might be coincidental ??

Yeah-
I read all that figuring I had missed some stuff but mostly knew what had happened.

The issue got brought to my attention about 4 or 5 days ago
(prior to this thread) by another manager who mentioned to me
that he saw it in a couple of leagues and was wondering about its validity.

I also mentioned it to a few managers who all concurred that it was outside the rules.

Every team that Don has had before must be examined. This is blasphemy...(Did I spell that right...I don't care.)

Really? Really? You guys don't have anything better to do?
