Roster Construct Ideas

Roster Construct Ideas

Postby supertyphoon » Mon Jan 02, 2012 4:32 pm

I've been wanting to test out some crazy, deeply flawed roster ideas ... and I'd like to offer anyone interested an opportunity to construct a "dream team" for one or more of the following rosters in a standard $100M no-DH league:

EAST - Fielding test

1) Great fielding (pitchers included), great pitching, poor hitting, extreme pitchers park.

2) Poor fielding (pitchers included), great pitching, good hitting, extreme hitters park.

3) Great fielding (pitchers included), poor pitching, good hitting, extreme hitters park.

4) Poor fielding (pitchers included), poor pitching, great hitting, extreme pitchers park.

CENTRAL - Platoon test

1) Hitters much better vs opposite arm, Pitchers much better vs. same arm, pitchers park.

2) Hitters much better vs opposite arm, Pitchers much better vs. opposite arm, pitchers park.

3) Hitters much better vs same arm, Pitchers much better vs. opposite arm, pitchers park.

4) Hitters much better vs same arm, Pitchers much better vs. same arm, pitchers park.

WEST - Clutch test

1) All hitters (excluding min salary) have high negative clutch, all pitchers have high wild pitch and balk, hitters park.

2) All hitters (excluding min salary) have high positive clutch, all pitchers have low wild pitch and balk, hitters park.

3) All hitters have zero or positive clutch, great hitting pitchers, hitters park.

4) All hitters have zero or negative clutch, poor hitting pitchers, hitters park.

=================

The idea here is to have a theme league that uses a diverse set of roster types primarily to see what works well, and what fails miserably.

If anyone wants to tackle one (or more) of these and create a roster that fits within the parameters given here, I'd appreciate it very much. After 12 rosters are completed, I'd resolve conflicts with overlapping players between rosters, then open it up to whoever was interested in participating.

Suggestions / modifications you think would make this work better are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I expect to end up managing 3 or 4 teams - either all the teams in single division or one team in each division - if this concept ever makes it to opening day.

Your theme is a good one. I would jump in but I have two teams going here at TSN and several other CD-ROM leagues going. Also I do not have much experience managing non DH teams. My budget is so that I only want to buy a couple of teams a month.

Nexrad,

Love this idea. I have tried on several occasions to build this type of team through drafting, but have not gotten all of my picks (so each team has been flawed).

If I could name my roster and actually get them, I would love to go for one of these squads.

I can send links to 3 of my prior attempts if you are interested.

:D :D :D

Minimum error team, great pitching for me

Pitching staff -
Maddux 11.3 2e0
Lefty Grove 9.18 2e0
Mark Fydrich 8.66 1e0
Walter Johnson 7.77 2e0
Ed Farmer 0.50 3e0
Mariano Rivera 5.59 2e0
Randy Myers 4.22 3e0
Cadaret 1.13 2e0
Minton 1.07 1e0
Sambito 0.91 3e0

total pitchers (10) $50.33

c - Pagnozzi 1.16 1(-2)e0
1b - Garvey 1.58 2e0
2b - Cano 8.16 1e3
3b - Arod 10.33 1e12
ss - Vizquel 6.26 1e4
RF - Ichiro 7.04 1(-5)e1
CF - Cedeno 6.77 1(-4)e1
LF - Puhl 3.76 1(+1)e0

starters - (8) 45.06

subtotal - $95.39

c - Steve Lake 0.92 2(-2)e1
1- Pete Lacock 0.53 2e7
2b - Jackie Hayes 0.53 2e10
ss - Harry Lunte 0.54 2e10
cf - Lance Johnson 0.72 2(+1)e2
of - Jim Jackson 0.73 1(+2)e4
of - Brett Butler 0.64 1(-2)e2

backups (7) 4.61

cap =$100 mil 25 players

This team might fit your criteria for a petco/griffith team

could get worse at hitting by dropping Cedeno for Stanley and upgrading to the 10.98 Walter Johnson, adjusting the backups. Drop Arod for Gardner and use the money to grab 9.28 Pedro Martinez and add him to a 5 man rotation...... so many ideas 8-)

nexrad,

How do you envision running the draft? Autodraft? Post your full draft players on a message board draft? Something in between?

RE: draft

I envision all players pre-assigned to teams prior to the draft, no one loses a draft pick.

As I indicated earlier, I'll set this up as a private league with managers allowed more than one team. I'll start drawing up a few team rosters as a starting point. I intend to take whatever anybody else doesn't want.

hackra,

I like your team, but the split between pitchers / hitters should probably be closer to 55-60 million on pitching and 35-40 million for hitters to fit the profile for East #1. But I'll pencil you in for this as a great defense roster. Some of those hitters might fit better with East #3.

--- That sounds about right. Give it a shot.

how about this for not as good hitters
Minimum error team, great pitching

Pitching staff -
Maddux 11.3 2e0
Lefty Grove 9.18 2e0
Mark Fydrich 8.66 1e0
Walter Johnson 7.77 2e0

Mariano Rivera 5.59 2e0
Randy Myers 4.22 3e0
Cadaret 1.13 2e0
Minton 1.07 1e0
Sambito 0.91 3e0

total pitchers (10) $59.11

c - Pagnozzi 1.16 1(-2)e0
1b - Garvey 1.58 2e0
2b - Cano 8.16 1e3
3b - Gardner 3.94 1e11
ss - Vizquel 6.26 1e4
RF - Ichiro 7.04 1(-5)e1
CF - Stanley 3.30 1(-2)e0
LF - Puhl 3.76 1(+1)e0

1b- Chick Gandil 1.96 1e3
2b - Jackie Hayes 0.53 2e10

cf - Lance Johnson 0.72 2(+1)e2
of - Jim Jackson 0.73 1(+2)e4

backups (6) $5.40

cap =$99.71 mil 24 players

I would call this Great Pitching, Great Fielding, pretty iffy hitting

could alter backups/relief to get a 25th man if needed to maybe something like this -

Pitching staff -
Maddux 11.3 2e0
Lefty Grove 9.18 2e0
Mark Fydrich 8.66 1e0
Walter Johnson 10.98 2e0
Ed Farmer 0.50 2e0
Billy Wagner 5.78 3e0
Mariano Rivera 5.59 2e0
Randy Myers 4.22 3e0
Cadaret 1.13 2e0
Minton 1.07 1e0
Sambito 0.91 3e0

total pitchers (11) $59.39

c - Pagnozzi 1.16 1(-2)e0
1b - Garvey 1.58 2e0
2b - Cano 8.16 1e3
3b - Gardner 3.94 1e11
ss - Vizquel 6.26 1e4
RF - Ichiro 7.04 1(-5)e1
CF - Stanley 3.30 1(-2)e0
LF - Puhl 3.76 1(+1)e0

starters - (8) 35.20

subtotal - $94.59

c - Steve Lake 0.92 2(-2)e1
1b- Chick Gandil 1.96 1e3
2b - Jackie Hayes 0.53 2e10
ss - Harry Lunte 0.54 2e10
cf - Lance Johnson 0.72 2(+1)e2
of - Jim Jackson 0.73 1(+2)e4

backups (6) $5.40

cap =$99.99 mil 25 players

what do you think :?:

I don't have bunches of credits to blow, but would be happy to construct some ideas for other squads if you like. Are there any other of the 12 you would like me to mock up?

hackra - if you like building rosters, submit a draft that someone else might want to use and tweak a bit to suit their tastes.
