sample roster east #3
great fielding, good hitting,[color=red:5a91dbfeed]not so poor pitching[/color:5a91dbfeed]

lineup-

c - Mauer 9.53 1(-3)e1
1b - Pujols 10.51 1e7
2b -Robbie Alomar 7.49 1e8
3b - ARod 10.33 1e12
ss - Ripken 9.72 1e14
Lf - Bonds 12.95 1(-2)e6
Cf - Mantle 8.96 1(-3)e2
Rf - Walker 11.19 1(-4)e2 (cheaper Walker is alternative)

subtotal = $80.68

pitching -
Schoolboy Rowe 3.43 2e0 8NR
Joe Martina 2.06 2e0 5WR
Bob Forsch 1.74 3e0 8NR
Johnny Vandermeer 1.97 2e0 5WS
Preacher Roe 1.60 2e0 6NR
Rogers 1.38 2e0
Humphries 0.93 2e0
Zuvernick 0.93 2e0
Duren 0.92 1e0
Farmer 0.50 2e0

leaving $3.86 for 7 backup fielders

(it's a starting point)
:?

Edit #1

Postby hackra » Tue Jan 03, 2012 2:12 pm

sample roster east #4
poor fielding, great hitting, iffy pitching

lineup-

c - Beckwith 9.90 5(+2)e13
1b - Ruth 15.10 4e11 (Frank Thomas could work here)
2b - Tubby Scales 6.46 3e27
3b - Dick Allen 7.95 4e38 (I still say Foxx at 3b...and with a bulletproof Ruth he won't get sent to 1b)
ss - Arky Vaughn 5.25 3e29 (Luke Appling or Maury Wills may qualify)
Lf - Kiner 10.94 4(+1)e7
Cf - Hack Wilson 9.38 3(0)e12
Rf - Ted Williams 11.83 3(-1)e11

subtotal = $76.81

pitching -easy to find a $18 mil. worth of poor fielding, poor throwing pitchers (they won't be as poor throwing as a $6 group, but there are bad ones even at a higher budget)

sample pitching staff for this group
Drysedale 4.99 2e43 8NR
Ray Caldwell 3.25 3e13 5WL
Coombs 1.97 4e21 5NS
Ewell Blackwell 5.45 4e33 5NR
0.50 placeholder starter
that would be $16.16 on starters

leaving about $7 mil for relievers, backups and upgrades

If you really like the GoldGlove east #1 team, I could make this one or the east #3 work.

Yeah, I'm in. This will be fun (and I will lose 95+ games).

Question on Central Teams.
Can you use a platoon. Say you're looking at a team with good same handed hitting...
Phil Bradley/Marshall Willard platoon acceptable? Or is that defeating the purpose.

Something to keep in mind....Where a card is a 4 or 5 at one position and 1 or 2 at another, as soon as there's a PH, injury, or a bit gets dropped, HAL will re-arrange the defensive positions to what he deems best. At times, that gets us a LF/RF cross up that we don't like. In some of the purposely bad D lineups above, a player will be moved from bad D to a good D position. Hugh Duffey, or example, will get moved to a corner OF position, if possible.

hackra - I really like your roster construct for East #1, not so much the others.

But I don't think anyone would sign up to manage a team with minimum salary pitchers. It's already been demonstrated many times that all offense / no pitching is DOA.

I don't have ready access to pitcher fielding stats, but I'd look at SPs in the $2-6 million range that are heavily used, and a top RP or two so the salary split is around 75% hitting and 25% pitching as a roster that could realistically be employed in a standard league.

My other concern would be intentionally playing hitters out of position. I'd look at poor defense guys that are heavily used, definitely Piazza at C, several at 1B, Jackie Robinson at 2B, the original Vaughan at SS, Foxx Allen or Thome at 3B, and that trifecta of Kiner Wilson and Williams in the OF.

PKB - Just pick one (or two) roster ideas that appeals to you and come up with your dream roster!

Hi guys, sounds good to me. Sign me up for your positive clutch team.

Here's the roster I put together myself, currently in 1st without using RPs:

I'd like to use most of those players again.

Randy Johnson - 9.21 4e23

(I am enjoying playing with ideas. Hope I am not spoiling the fun for anyone)

I'm in for the Central.

I was thinking that it should be balanced parks for the platoon test. Something like Vet 75.

PKB - I agree. I originally had neutral parks there, but decided to put pitchers parks just to balance hitters parks in the west. We may even decide all parks should be relatively neutral, but probably the best way is to propose a roster and then decide which home park is a good match.
