That's why I wanted to be near the middle of the draft instead of near the end, as it's a lot easier to project 10 or 12 picks than it is 20 in this limited player pool. Where I'm at, if I want a guy, it's better to take him a little too early than to risk being late. Hated to take Sutter so early, but he's arguably the best player at his position and with the lack of quality starters, I had to have a 3 inning stud in the pen. Now if only I can figure a way to get 500 innings out of him!

Anybody up for adding a few more rounds to this chess game, or will we all trust filling our plentiful needs to the autodraft?

I'd be willing to draft the whole roster, but we'd be here 'til February.:-)

The cool thing about the era is you can win with a variety of strategies. There's a very good balance between pitching and hitting, slugging and speed. I think you can actually even win with a balanced roster in this era, which is a nice allure.

That said, I'm not entirely sure which way my roster is going to go at this point, especially since the cap is only 80M. My fist four picks top out at just under 30M (depending on which Gorman I'd use). So now I have to think about relative strength of position and flexibility of card choices. Do I take a player who has a number of good years I can use for cap flexibility (example: Thomas)? Or do I select a player with one really great year (Mitchell)? Should be interesting to see what happens.

There's also some cheap platoon combos in there, and some OF's with 1B ratings (Pasqua). Surprised Rice lasted this long, actually.

Well, there's still some good players left at 1B and a few teams still need somebody there. Some of those guys will see DH duty as well. As we've seen, if they can hit and are reasonably priced, they'll get drafted. Between DH and platoons, the perceived surplus at 1B could evaporate quickly.

As for Rice, he is a good player, but is perceived by many as a chronic underperformer and a defensive liability, which is why he lasted until the end of the 4th round. I agree that he's a pretty good value there.
