It's 3-1 now, my team. Fingers crossed. 8-)

It's in the books: my 103 win team won the finals, thanks to a nice outing by Sudden Sam McDowell:

I give a tip of the hat to my competitor who had an awesome team.

Absolutely amazing stats for Maris. I've never seen numbers anywhere near what he did.

He (almost) always hits for me. I like him as a No. 5 hitter. Brings in a lot of ducks. Good for the price in these days of so many 10M players who don't produce like they should. 8-)

What's amazing about your team, Hack, is that almost all your players performed better than expected defensively....except for your pitchers! Of the 94 errors committed by your team, a full 24 were committed by the pitchers. Ouch!

Congrats on a great team!

[quote:9a0d6ae24f="scorehouse"]check out the lack of fielding on the 106 win team? amazing. :?[/quote:9a0d6ae24f]

I didn't see this thread until after the finals were over, but mine was the 106 win team. And the lack of fielding was in fact deliberate.

My latest theory is that defense in ATG6 (CF excepted for some reason) is pretty expensive, so I was going to go for very strong, good value hitting plus strongish, good value pitching, and see what happened. It seemed to work (until I hit the finals).

Larry Doyle might be exhibit A for this strategy. At 3.90M he is very much cheaper than in some earlier versions of ATG (5.5M I think in ATG3). And he's really going to hit in a lefty power park. My theory was that the defensive loss from a 3e19 2B was going to be more than compensated by his low price and hitting production. Anyway, for my 3.9M in a 100M league I got 23 HR, 27 triples, .376 OBP, 528 SLG, 116 R, 112 RBI (and only 11 errors). Seems to me I got a bargain.

However, for a team like this to work, it really has to HIT. My team scored 1221 runs while giving up 890, so it achieved its goal. But if you don't really hit, those 890 runs allowed are going to kill you.
