Conspiracy on 1920 Ruth card?

Did you notice the 1920 Ruth card has [b:042b6c7751]three [/b:042b6c7751]ballpark singles against righties and [b:042b6c7751]no[/b:042b6c7751] ballpark singles against lefties? Unbelievable. :shock:

Is this some kind of Illuminati conspiracy? The work of the Bilderberg Group? What dark hand is involved in this upsetting of the world order? :?

i'm having very mixed results with this card and playing him in sportsman, dunn, etc.

Tons of Ks against lefties. He only struck out 80 times that year. :?

He has no ballpark singes against lefties for the simple reason that he has no singles of any other kind either. That's because his XBH rate against lefties chews up all the hit chances, leaving none left for any other kind of hit. See Barry Bonds 2001 and Mark McGwire 1999. Are you going to stop using those cards, too?

A 1-3 is 2 rolls. First number is the column. The second number represents the two 6-sided dice total. Two six-sided dice can work out as follows (first number is die 1, 2d number is die 2):

roll 1/1...=2
roll 1/2...=3
roll 2/1...=3
etc.

So there are two ways to roll a three...and this is on columns one and two, i.e., 1-3, 2-3. That's a total of 4.

The last chance is to roll a 12 if look up is from column three (3-12). Only one way to roll a twelve, by rolling two sixes. That's another chance--totaling 5.

So, each column represents the following results/outcomes for the two six sided dice:
2: 1 chance
3: 2 chances
4: 3 chances
5: 4 chances
6: 5 chances
7: 6 chances
8: 5 chances
9: 4 chances
10: 3 chances
11: 2 chances
12: 1 chance

for a total of 36 outcomes (6*6). Multiplied by the three columns, this yields 108 chances for that side of the card.

By the way, ballpark singles are all or nothing--either 0 or 5 chances.

Of course, Ruth only had 172 hits total that year...99 XB hits. So, with his card having to reproduce that against 76% righties that year for a season replay...that means creating a card that generates 55.48 singles against righties and 17.52 singles against lefties. Against lefties, he would likely get too many singles if he had the standard ballpark effect, so they are left off. Those singles will have to come from the pitcher's card.

Note, this is not exactly how it's derived...as the results vs each side are first considered in order to generate the card balance, and then the plate appearances against L/R are accounted for.

So...by extension, if he sees more than 26% lefties, he will hit more homeruns and strike out a ton too...exactly the reason I drafted him in Dunn and with a few other lefty and homer parks with plenty of LHPs. Will see.

I've been happy w/this card. I put him on a small ball team in Petco '05. He gives some legit power in the lineup, and his card is loaded w/natural HRs against LHP. The natural HRs are essential in my park. Adding to the mix is that my division is loaded w/LHP and he's been a perfect fit.

After 347 ABs: .303 BA, .424 OBP, .706 SLG, 36 HRs and ranks 4th in OPS w/1.130.
