Invitational league: Weinberg vs Petrosian

Postby JohnnyBlazers » Sun Jan 22, 2012 11:15 pm

You guys are hysterical...Petro & Weinberg must be brothers or something 'cause they are always arguing!

Have to agree with Nev

[quote...Is it pretty damn unrealistic? Yup. But no more so than guys hitting 100 hrs and players like Gates Brown getting 500 abs here from a season that he had 92.[/quote]

I've had Sutter go 250-300 innings - I must have accidentally selected the wrong settings - anyway it worked. Didn't they do away with the Super-Reliever in the 200x game - in that context it is an advantage. However in ATG, not so much I would think. Either way, if it's in the game it's fair

Oh yeah..."I got a feeling...Giants are going to the Super Bowl"!

that's on pace for 302 innings. I've seen much more before from Sutter, Adams, etc...

And there have been Major league relievers who pitched 200 innings. Just hold Petro to his word that he only pitches him below 200 (or 250 or whatever he said) innings.

Good luck to all and keep us informed on the progress of the draft and league (when/if it ever occurs).

[quote:4fa006ac16="El-Saltman"]Charlie,

the difference being that you are 'forcing' his use in LF...
you cant 'force' Hal to pitch a reliever any number of innings- no matter what your settings are.[/quote:4fa006ac16]

BULL you are giving HAL no other choices for reliever the exact same as you are giving HAL no other choices for LF. Petrosian said he would have Bernie take over the team because it was giving a 1MM advantage to the player. Now I don't know how Brool priced Murray or Sutter or anyone else but I bet it wasn't based on 300 IP. It is probably with those amount of innings in a hitters park pretty close to a 2-3 million dollar pickup in value, maybe even more.

Me I do not care either way, I am fine with it. But I am finding this whole thing pretty hysterical, we really should have the Pot calling the Kettle Black in this league!

IM shaking my head here:

Please explain to me how we dont understand the connection between a batter who only played in a few games getting 3xs as many ABs and a reliever who pitches in 3xs as many innings?????

Its certainly not about realism here- there are a million things that belie that notion.
Its simply about following the rules-

gaming the system means forcing it to work in a way in which it was intended not to- such as eliminating an injury possibilty from a catcher- thats cheating-

Im not a lawyer, nor do I play one on TV, but I think the analogy is pretty clear.

All of my relievers get used. And I almost always carry five. So HAL does have choices as you can see from any of my posted or as yet unposted teams. Everybody except the nickel starter has a role.

Couldn't be more wrong....You MUST have to other rps that HAL can use (and he will) as opposed to purposely making certain you have no other outfielder HAL can use.

Charlie-

I disagree entirely.

There are a minimum of 4 other relievers on a persons roster.

You have eliminated exactly 0 of them from the possibility of relieving.

If you force Hack to play left, its because there are 0 other OF choices to play there.

explanation for saltman: gates brown is priced to play the number of plate appearances that he will play. murray is priced to pitch 165 ip.

using the super reliever cheating method is the equivalent of somehow getting gates brown to bat 1100 times per season versus righty pitching.

So Bernie feels that Super Reliever is an approved strategy? I am asking because like the Hack Wilson thing I know how to do it but never bothered even though I think there is nothing wrong with it because it peeves a lot of people and so I stay relatively in the norm, I would usually use Babe Adams who costs 8MM if I use the strategy for the most part. relievers as Petro says I try to maintain to 250 innings for them as my maximum. But if it is ok with the general populace now I will build teams around that.
