Mid Season Injuries

Postby Stormcrow2012 » Tue Jan 24, 2012 5:57 pm

I had Biz Mackey go down for 15 games with 75 left to play. And he has been killing the ball. But since he will miss at least 20% of the remaining games should I drop him for someone else? At what point in the season do you drop a guy who is going to be out for 15 games? Thanks in advance for any and all responses.

I think it depends on who's available and where you stand. You're going to take a cap hit - is there a guy available that you can fit in who is 80% of the way from your backup to Biz?

I would doubt it. I like Biz; the problem I have with liking catchers is that nearly all of them are 15 game injury risks. Of course, I won a ring in a $140 million league with Jody Davis catching all but the first 3 innings of the playoffs, since Mickey Cochrane took a 15 gamer in his 3rd AB.

My vote is to tough it out if you are currently in a playoff spot, and make a move if you are not.

I've always wanted to use Mackey but the injury risk always scared me off. This thread isn't helping.

Keep Mackey. I don't know the details of your team but if he is "killing" the ball then you have found a fit for your ballpark and league. The 15 game departure will be a small (albeit frustrating) price to pay for future rewards and preservation of cap.

Thanks for the advice fellas, I suppose I will ride out his injury.Although I still have a little over an hour to change my mind. It is an 80 million dollar league and I am currently two games behind the team who would be the wild card if the season ended today. My backup is Jon Wathan.

Another quick thought...

If you've reached game 128 or whichever game it is where your remaining games are strictly within your division it may be worthwhile to drop for a free agent who may be a better fit against those remaining divisional opponents.
