[quote:f669e2a055="Mr. Baseball World"]Can we promote after the cards come out or do we need to do that now? May not matter but want to know in case I have players that may not get cards..........or do we know for sure already who will get cards since we are using the unleashed set?[/quote:f669e2a055]

We do not know who will get cards, especially for those on the "unleashed bubble" -- so choose accordingly.

From the league rules:

"6) Buyer beware: If a player is drafted but then does not receive a card in the set for the coming season, he still remains on a team's roster. There are no replacement picks allowed later. "

Yes and no...

From the league rules:

"PROSPECT RULES
1) The maximum number of prospects allowed for each team is 10.
2) Prospects are not counted as part of the 40 man roster while they maintain their prospect status.
3) Owners control the rights of their prospects for no longer than 2 years. At the end of 2 years (from time of draft) a prospect must either be promoted to the MLB roster or released.
4) Prospects can be traded, but the 2 year timeline remains constant for each prospect. Prospects moving from one team to another must be promoted or released when the end of the original 2 year cycle has been reached.
5) [b:3aa435fd04]Prospects can be promoted to the major league roster at any time, provided there is roster space available. [/b:3aa435fd04]Once promoted, all prospects lose their prospect status and cannot be demoted back to prospect status."

In other words:
a. You reduce your roster to 30 (or less) before the draft
b. You fill the roster to 40 by drafting
c. If you did not promote a prospect prior to the draft, then your next opportunity will be if you trade away more players than you receive back (e.g., a 2-for-1 trade), thus creating a roster opening.

Prospects, continued...

Also from the league rules:

"3) Prospects can be activated and promoted to the major league roster during the regular season provided there is roster space available to do so. Players with a full 40 man roster cannot promote a prospect until there is room available to do so.
4) Regular players on the 40 man roster cannot be released in order to promote a prospect while a season is in progress.
5) Regular players can be released from the 40 man roster only for the following: a) Pre-draft release prior to annual free agent draft; b) pre-draft release prior to the supplemental free agent draft; or c) to bring a roster down to the 40 man limit, following an unbalanced transaction."

Although not specifically mentioned in the rules, it is my understanding that most keeper leagues allow you to drop someone from the 40-man roster prior to the supplemental draft and promote a prospect at that time (instead of supp. drafting someone else) -- so that's what we'll do here, too.

So you cannot drop someone from the forty man roster during a season to bring a player up or draft only up to a 39 man roster and then bring a prospect up as # 40.

Yes, that's correct. Drop/promote [b:0aa3cc07cb]before[/b:0aa3cc07cb] the draft.

.....managed to figure out 9 last night but will post my list tonight.....I think......though looks like may have to promote Montero now so will need to get to 11........I am thinking he would get an unleashed card. My problem is my other keeper teams are 24 team leagues and so when I look at these guys I either see potential or a decent year but probably really are not in the 12 team format.
