Leagues for new players

[quote:1a21beed18]I think FZL is right, that the "learning" will happen in the open leagues, but to set the hook, you have to have fun and winning 3 out of 10 isn't fun for most. Those of us who are regular players didn't mind being beat up at first, but I really do think a lot of people give up and don't come back primarily because of the degree of difficulty.
First thing I thought of when I read this post was the game of Pente. I tried for years to get friends, etc to take up the game. But after I beat their brains in winning a dozen straight they lost interest. Next tactic was to try throwing some games to keep interest but most could tell what I was doing and just felt insulted. Found the only method that worked was to teach at least 2 people at once and let them learn by playing each other.
