Theme League Idea: "Club" competition

Postby macnole » Thu Jan 26, 2012 5:02 pm

Anyone have an opinion if (1) this would be any fun and (2) if this would be feasible

Team competition league. OK--requires some integrity.
Four "clans"
Think in terms of a "clan"--3 users in each clan team.
There are 3 SOMO teams per combined user "clan" team.
Each in a different div
Each with a declared standard stadium
Rule of no trades with same clan. No drop/pickups by same clan maybe with some exceptions, like pre-season.
Best combined clan record wins.

For example:
EAST
Clan A Team 1 (Dunn)
Clan B Team 1 (Dunn)
Clan C Team 1 (Dunn)
Clan D Team 1 (Dunn)

CENTRAL
Clan A Team 2 (Hilltop)
Clan B Team 2 (Hilltop)
Clan C Team 2 (Hilltop)
Clan D Team 2 (Hilltop)

WEST
Clan A Team 3 (Petco)
Clan B Team 3 (Petco)
Clan C Team 3 (Petco)
Clan D Team 3 (Petco)

Could keep "clan" integrity for tourneys, combined points, etc. Have a clan wiki etc...

This is one way to (1) put a challenging scarcity on the huge player pool by using like stadia and (2) increase camaraderie, sustained interest, interaction. Specialists in certain genres could be recruited for example; maybe certain clans/clubs for different salary caps...

Thoughts?

Seems to me that it might be more interesting to not only let, but to encourage, trading within the clans. After all, what's the point in being in the clan if you cannot band together to try to maximize each team?

it keeps removing the word c-l-a-n...this is ridiculous and goes back to the idea we need babysitters.
maybe use association/club/tribe etc

good point...but was just thinking each person pays their money and collusion is not allowed in the rules, and so it removes that.

The point I envisioned is to get the best person for each genre picked, i.e., if person A is a great smallballer, you band together. Then if a given tourney's rules are stadium X, Y, Z, then you recruit friends/players etc to fill those requirements. Plus, could be lots of strategy depending on the stadium.

You know, "clubs" could be among friends, like
Weinberg/Petrosian/Charlie

OK I'm kidding, but seriously:
Club A: Charlie, Frank Bailey, Don FesQ
Club B: Petrosian, Nevdullys, Geekor
Club C: Weinberg, Spicki, visick

just an example of what I mean. Sorry if someone didnt want their name called out or if offense taken for association or non-association

Seems like a very interesting idea. Although with my lack of ATG6 experience I am not sure if I could find two other GMs who would want me in their group. I would still be interested in following how this works....
