One slight error on the roster chart.You have Stauffer listed as a SP and a RP and Cashner was not added.I still have 27 on my roster just need to make sure that Cashner is put on my team so he is not drafted by anyone

From the league rules:

"PROSPECT RULES
1) The maximum number of prospects allowed for each team is 10.
2) Prospects are not counted as part of the 40 man roster while they maintain their prospect status.
3) Owners control the rights of their prospects for no longer than 2 years. At the end of 2 years (from time of draft) a prospect must either be promoted to the MLB roster or released.
4) Prospects can be traded, but the 2 year timeline remains constant for each prospect. Prospects moving from one team to another must be promoted or released when the end of the original 2 year cycle has been reached.

In other words:
a. You reduce your roster to 30 (or less) before the draft
b. You fill the roster to 40 by drafting
c. If you did not promote a prospect prior to the draft, then your next opportunity will be if you trade away more players than you receive back (e.g., a 2-for-1 trade), thus creating a roster opening.

Also from the league rules:

"3) Prospects can be activated and promoted to the major league roster during the regular season provided there is roster space available to do so. Players with a full 40 man roster cannot promote a prospect until there is room available to do so.
4) Regular players on the 40 man roster cannot be released in order to promote a prospect while a season is in progress.
5) Regular players can be released from the 40 man roster only for the following: a) Pre-draft release prior to annual free agent draft; b) pre-draft release prior to the supplemental free agent draft; or c) to bring a roster down to the 40 man limit, following an unbalanced transaction."

Although not specifically mentioned in the rules, it is my understanding that most keeper leagues allow you to drop someone from the 40-man roster prior to the supplemental draft and promote a prospect at that time (instead of supp. drafting someone else) -- so that's what we'll do here, too.

I was asking how long can I keep the current prospects in their prospect status. I don't know for sure when they were drafted by Jerlins. I didn't see anything on the Excel workbook sent to me that showed when they were drafted.

Aha! Last year was the first year for this league, so you can keep the prospects for another year without fear of losing them.

BTW, the spreadsheet lists the current prospects as PR '10 (in the left margin), to indicate they were drafted for the 2010 season's card set. This year will show as PR '11, etc.
