Ron Brand went the other direction. He was a catcher, platooning with John Bateman in Houston and in Montreal (that must have irked him, being selected in the expansion draft along with Bateman). In 1970, Gene Mauch moved him to shortstop! How many times has that happened in MLB? (Looks as if he started in the minors as an OF and then moved to SS/2B and then C, so there was some SS DNA in him).
