ANNOUNCEMENT: Strat-O-Matic.com to be taking over SOM Online

Postby visick » Fri Feb 03, 2012 2:32 pm

I too, am a little concerned about this move.

I'm no computer geek but...in order to sim these games, they are gonna need some computing power.

They will need speed and redundancy as well.

I hate to sound negative about this but...wasn't this the same company that until fairly recently was still using the 3.5" floppy disk?

[quote:90a0805af1="Valen"]Excited about the new features but mixed feelings about strat-o-matic taking over. My first thought is remembering how the game company has cheated me out of hundreds. It is not an ethical company.

Elaborate?

Assuming they spent the $$ to get some good servers, this is welcome news. No offense but after TSN got bought out, it just hasn't been the same.

Actually what is sad to me is the re-pricing of the old sets. I liked my bargains that I always knew about (visick will be sad about Feliz probably doubling in his 2003 salary :P ), ability to super relive to the max. Then again it could make it feel like a new game as well.

This is exciting news. Congratulations Bernie! I have always loved the game of Strat-O-Matic, and I love playing it in this format as well as playing with cards and dice and the CD-ROM version. I think Strat-O-Matic is a great American small business. They are a lot smaller than many people realize, or at least they were, maybe they are growing.

In the past, maybe because of their size, customer service has not always been up to par to say the least... I have spent a lot of money with SOM (though not as much money as some others) and several times I have been extremely disappointed in the tech support and customer service departments. At times it has been so bad that I was actually insulted and verbally abused by tech support and so called customer service employees.

In addition I hope certain employees who have been extremely arrogant and rude in the past are not involved in the on-line aspect of the company. As long as Bernie stays in charge I am optimistic that SOM's past customer service blunders will not be repeated.

I am hesitant to post about this because I do not want my teams going on a long losing streak over my remarks. But these are some of my true feelings and experiences. I still love the products and the games, otherwise I would have stopped spending money on several different occasions.

I am hoping that with the addition of Bernie customer service will take some giant leaps forward.

Any chance of bringing back on line Strat-O-Matic football?

Good luck Bernie and On-Line Strat-O-Matic baseball!

Guys, don't do this here. Not in this thread.

I appreciate if there's healthy concerns about anything; just please let's not make blanket criticisms about either SN or SOM in this thread that I've been so excited to post for months now. Thanks.

This move is fantastic news, in every way. Hopefully I'll be able to go into more depth eventually. But so far as I can tell - and you know how I always call it like it is - Strat is doing everything right, spending the money, making the right investments, and setting up the right technology for us. I'm [i:c82ac5117d]thrilled[/i:c82ac5117d] with how things are going, as the programmer, and a fan, of this game.

I am very optimistic and supportive, but where should we post any concerns? Or should we just shut up?

Any idea on timing of switchover? And, thinking about it some more, will it coincide with the 2011 set release of the online version? Does it impact the typical early-March release?

Really excited about this Bernie...if for no other reason than knowing you have enough faith and excitement to stay involved. I think that speaks volumes.

Any and all teasers are welcome!
