A Minute Maid in a world full of Lefties...

New team - $100m/waivers/NO DH...

Playing in Minute Maid. All 3 of the other teams in my division are playing in LH slanted parks (Shea 71, PNC 05 and League 34).

Rest of the league is:

East - Minute Maid, Stars Park, Sportsman NL 41 and Forbes 57
Central - Fenway 71, Forbes 54, Shibe 50 and County 57

I did not get either of my 1st 2 picks in the AD: Hornsby and Beckwith...

I am at a loss now as to what to do in waivers given how LH slanted my division is. Right now, there are 6/12 LH starters in the division although Nev's team has all .50 starters right now (and all super-relievers) so who knows how that will end up come opening day.

Advice please?

You're gonna need some righty bats that crush LH's.

ie. Bagwell, Dick Allen, Gil Hodges (8L), New JuanGone card etc...

For SP, you might look for righty SP's that are slanted to the left, but still very tough on righties...

ie. Clemens / Gooden have a tear or 2 slanted to the left.

I would say that you want to always build for your home park first since you will play half of your games there. Next you can build for your division. I would have mostly RH hitters. Your pitchers though might need to be more LH if the rest of your division have mostly LH hitters.

Or some reverse LH'ers...

ie. Koufax, Glavine, Hurst, Blue etc...

yes the offense is not problematic at all. Plenty of options. Just make sure for the lefty slants that they have natural HRs and/or significant XB power to the left without needing bphrs(but take advantage of them at home of course).

then a lefty or two who has natural xb power and ob.

pitching will depend how they construct their teams, but reverse lefties coud be very effective at home as visick said. They could be effective in the lefty parks if your opponents don't stay strong lefty against lefties (i.e., they have hitters like the 6R Brett, mantle, weak platoons etc instead of musial, charleston, etc).

good luck

Clemente is another good value here

unless you love balks i would not use that david cone card. i used him on one team and he had over 30 balks.

Steven - thanks for the point about Cone - I didn't notice that. Given the park situation, I planned on swapping him out anyway.

Anyone want to suggest some LH bats to use in my situation other than Youngs?

i went back and looked, and 85%+ of his balks came in the first 5 innings. i also had him assigned for early hook.

as for LH bats: p.waner, i.suzuki, t.stearnes, j.callison, etc...

I didn't mean in place of Youngs. I meant other LH's that would be useful for my team in my situation.
