Let's review the bidding here, folks:
1. On 1/13 dreamingtree wrote that "I have been in the hospital since December 30, and was released yesterday." And then on 1/15 he wrote that "I was in the HOSPITAL for about a week..." Which of the two statements is correct?
2. In any case, a hospital is not some primitive outpost. In these days of internet-capable laptops, tablets and cell phones, there is no difficulty staying in contact if you choose to. For example, I was hospitalized a couple of years ago with a heart condition and published a major update of a client's website from my hospital bed.
3. Any response by dreamingtree to our attempted contacts would have halted the league activity, pending his return. Even if he had no communication ability himself, while in the hospital, he could have had a friend or relative post a reply. Instead, he did not reply until after the teams had been loaded for the new season.
4. I'm the commish in 4 keeper leagues and have seen managers post to league chat threads while umpiring ballgames, while traveling to remote spots and, yes, while in the hospital. Dreamingtree did not reply for days, so we replaced him as manager of his franchise.
5. Joekendall, our new manager, drafted supplemental picks and made one small trade in order to try to improve the team. These were perfectly appropriate moves and need not be un-done.
6. Kaviksdad traded for Herrera in good faith and has no responsibililty whatsoever to void the deal.
7. In any case, Herrera is a part-time utility infielder with an MLB OPS of less than .700 (and can't even reach that level in the next season). This is much ado about nothing.
Summary:
a. Dreamingtree temporarily lost control of his team, through his lack of contact.
b. Joekendall helped out the league by stepping in, and then tried to "do the right thing" and give the team back to dreamingtree, after he surfaced.
c. Legitimate draft picks and a low-level trade occurred and there is no reason to change those.
d. League play starts tonight. Let's move on...
