I still haven't heard more than a couple of voices on Qk's proposal -- a minority to be sure.

Also, I FINALLY have four replacement managers willing to sign on. I am going to run the lottery tonight and then hand out those four teams.

John Law
Kaviksdad
Tcochran
Evan Thomas

Hopefully, everyone will be satisfied with the team they receive.

The forum has not exactly been a hot bed of activity. I appreciate you keeping the motion open til more managers have weighed in. Given our turn over rate and the difficuly you have recruiting replacements, I think it would be advisable to craft the rules to make the path to recovery for any rebuilding team slighty pro or at least balanced. As I stated I beleive the curent version to be slightly punitive. Please keep in mind these rules were written for a twelve team league with forty man rosters. Thanks for your consideration.

Welcome new managers!

I wanted to say welcome to the new additions to the league. They are recognizable names and that makes me pleased to have them.

As for these other discussions, I think the reason not many are not responding is because it is a rather tedious discussion that seems to be mostly about semantics and some of us duller in the gray matter department are finding it difficult to even comprehend what is being said.

How about this? Prospects should be eligible to be called up whenever the owner wants. Anytime! Though someone would have to be released from the active roster at that time, with no back-tracking. Isn't that the way the Major Leagues work? If I want to call a player up, and someone on the ML roster is out of options, they must be released. I realize that is simplifying matters, but shouldn't those decisions be at the imperative of the owner?

And if you want to shorten the draft, why require 10 drops at all? I realize the goal is player turnover, but if I want to keep 25 guys from my 30 man roster, and promote 2, then I only need to draft 3 players from the FA pool. That would shorten the draft. Why should I be forced to drop players if I like my team as is. Major league teams are not required to drop a certain number of players from their roster each season, why should we be?

That is all just food for thought ... but I love the format of this league because it is more challenging to build and maintain a roster and role players have a more important role than in 12 team leagues. I'm excited that we have replacements and hope everyone else is too.

Guys,

Smitty has some good ideas in response to the conversation about prospects, drafts, etc. Here is the problem. We could go on forever and if we called a vote, it would take a long time to get any consensus. I think the commish should review qksilver's, smitty's and other suggestions, make a quick and easy list of two or three rule changes, ask for input and determine a solution within a reasonable time period- say one week. I think everyone would be on board with whatever; we just need to finalize it.

It seems like shortening the draft, the size of the draft pool and a prospect eligibility rule are considerations.

Two cents:
Give managers complete control and release a minimum of none to a maximum of 10 and use draft slots to promote prospects at the beginning of the season,( to use smitty's example: Drop five to 25, draft in the first three rounds and promote two= 30).

AND if a manager needs to promote during the season (I don't see a great advantage here as the manager "knows" the card before the season, however...) all that would be required is a drop of a player to promote the prospect.

I'm not opposed to any mentioned changes, but as a point of reference, dropping players is one way to guard against a juggernaut. I'm not that concerned though. We don't have free agency, so we're really working in more of a pure Curt Flood model. We could always introduce random free agency, of course. That would add some drama to the season start.

Well I'm in for a rough one.

Waiting till the cards come out, but this team will be in official rebuild mode for a couple of seasons i'm guessing.

Willing to move folks for prospects and picks.

No one is untouchable.

Thanks

I just bumped the 24 TKL transactions thread. If you do a deal, please post it there, not here, for confirmation.

Thx,
Qk

dropping players and creating that turnover is the only mimic we have for free agency. I am in favor of that in general, my issue is with being forced to cut more than ten to promote prospects.

I like the minimum ten cuts. With 24 teams I believe it's needed.

I also like Smitty's idea about cutting additional players for prospects as you state your intention to activate prospect(s) for the coming year.

I got to thank Smitty for simplifying this whole conversation.
