Is this team really this bad?

Playing in a $200M league.

Team make=up is not ideal, but I did not think that bad...hard to make changes after autodraft gives you what you get, not much on waivers to upgrade with...tried a couple trades, but still felt like team would be competitive.

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/stratomatic/team/team_other.html?user_id=370546&stats=sim&onroster=1

Started out 12-6 against my division opponents...who coincidentally have the 3rd and 4 th best record teams in the league in there currently.

Since then, the bottom has basically dropped out...going 4-20, with streaks of 6 losses in a row twice and 4 in a row once.

Defense is weak at 3B and LF (and C when Blanchard in), but otherwise pretty good and have all 1's to swap in defensively if HAL ever decides to use them.

Who would have thought the Blanchard/Seminick platoon would be my best offensive threat...?

$200 million leagues are tough.

Plus streaks happen.

What's your lineup look like?

Current line-up is as follows (RH/LH Pitchers):

RF Gwynn
LF Williams
3B Foxx
1B Helton
DH Berkman/Kent
CF Griffey
C Blanchard/Seminick
SS Trammel
2B Cano

Did have catchers batting 9th...but moved them up a couple notches as they are hitting better than most of rest of team...

Defensive subs set up as Santo at 3B, Cuyler in LF, Vizquel at SS, and Seminick if not already in at C...all 1's

You're playing Vizquel, McGraw, and Gwynn in Wrigley 78 with four pitchers (McLain, McNally, Niekro, and Wilhelm) that have serious HR problems and you wonder why you are losing? Your team belongs in Forbes 57:

He's using Vizquel as a backup.

rburgh brings up s great point about your pitching.

Facing lot of leftie recently?

Splits against LH Pitchers: .229/.302/.349
Splits against RH Pichers: .279/.358/.499

There are a lot of good lefty SP and in a $200 mill league,
your oppopnents can stock up and choose which arm. This
really kicks in around game 18 or so, when the weaknesses
show up in your stats. So a strong start followed by getting
dominated.

In summary: your team is not bad at all, it hits righties really
well. Your team has a weakness, the weakness has been
exposed and you getting beaten by matchups.

If you want to do something about it, downgrade some of your
bench players and pick up so lefty-killing platoon mates if there
are any available. Or pick up an extra SP or two and play
some match up games of your own. Or a combo of both.

Omar as a back up seems odd.

RE: Omar why 2006 for his card, IMO 98,99 or 2000 would make more sense and seem like better years to base a card off of?

Good points...couple of responses:

Picked the park based on draft list...after autodraft, kind of screwed in some cases, especially in $200M leagues

Vizquel and McGaw not starters...McGraw I tried a few games at DH to try to get more OBP in front of Williams and Foxx...not so much luck..was hoping Kent and Berkman would hit more

Visquel is there for D only...and I use him cause it is best card defensively and I had plenty of money

I can look for more platooning...not a strong suit of mine...open to suggestions on it.

Starting pitching...good luck finding upgrades from free agent list...I do use McNally amd Keefe as left/right swap out. Had Lefty Grove...he was getting hammered, 0-6, 7.7 ERA...dropped him for Niekro to try to see if a bit better...certainly no worse yet...

Some bad luck with Williams, but overall just not a 200M roster. Starting Gwynn, Cano, Trammell, and Berkman/Kent all below average at their position, and the entire pitching staff other than Maddux is substandard for a 200M league and not well suited for your park.

If you can, I'd get Grove back - he's better than Niekro despite short term struggles.

Canseco, Dwight Evans, Rettenmund or Valentine would be good fits in your park to platoon with Gwynn.

Not crazy about Helton in cleanup spot. In most leagues I use him he underperforms. Not saying he stinks, just not good enough to anchor a lineup.

Agree with an earlier post about your pitching. I would not be able to sleep at night knowing I had that many pitching #s with home park of Wrigley. Need to either avoid guys like McLain, McNally, Wilhelm or choose a more pitcher friendly park. I think you are lucky they are putting up the numbers they are. Overall 5.79 ERA is somewhat acceptable in Wrigley.
