Bernie: Problem w/Max 6 Inning/Start setting - STILL WAITING

Postby boyer14 » Fri Feb 17, 2012 3:04 pm

OK - I wasn't saying it made sense, but I can see a situation where someone could set an F-level then come back and set a 6 inning max later and not remember to take off the F-level setting.

So I guess this is certainly less than "100% strict". Sometimes you learn these things from experience and then have to make some adjustments to get the results you desire.

As others have mentioned it does appear as if HAL got Barker out before any real damage could be done - as soon as one base runner got on base in the 7th Barker was pulled (while still at F9). I would be more concerned if examples existed where the starter exceeded the 6 inning limit and gave up runs as a result.

I understand the frustration but I don't think it'll get you anywhere. As many have mentioned, it's seemingly a 'guideline', just like the 9L pitcher with the 'quick hook' and 'avoid RH batters' boxes checked who faces 3 RH batters in a row... and loses the game for you.

Makes you want to pull your hair out but it happens. Over and over again. I just looked at a recent playoff game where my pitcher, Paul Splitorff (SP* 6), pitched the entire 9 innings of the game, a 7-0 shutout for him. Again, more fodder for the 'guideline' opinion.
