ATG new cards batch #6 debuts 2/22/12

Postby PotKettleBlack » Wed Feb 22, 2012 6:47 pm

Puzzled. Eddie Mathews played in 157 games for a team that went 92-62 (154 games) with three ties (157 games). He has a three game injury potential, why?

Bo don't know the strike zone.

The 76 Morgan card is the most puzzling to me-

Less ABs, higher slugging pct.- supposedly weighted heavily right-5R
card very similar to the 75 card? just odd to me. The horns 5R card actually is hugely better from the right.

Anyway- still- thanks Bernie- that is a card we had been asking for.

I think the Morgan 76 card is the 75 card with the fielding rating changed. In fact, it IS the '75 card, but with a different set of ratings on the top line.

If Bob Johnson had another nickname besides "Indian" ( i think that was his nick) it should have been "Unsung Bob"...he had a nice career, and he didn't become a major leaguer until he was 27.

Good catch rburgh. I feel less bewildered now. Of course now I'd love to hear the explanation for what happened here.

This could get interesting...

^^^ it is exactly the same except he gets a different def and he is a (AA) *4-6/- (19-15) vs (AA) *4-6/- (19-14).

Glad to see Bob Johnson finally got a card that did his arm justice-- never understood why he had a +5 on his original card. He was consistently in the top 5 in the league in outfield assists, and in the New Historical Baseball Abstract, Bill James had him listed as the best outfield arm in the '40s.

I also question the injury rating for Mathews -- baseball-reference.com has him starting all 157 games for the Braves that year.

Thanks, Bernie.

Whoa, you're right. It's the wrong card image. I'm working on correcting this ASAP. Thanks for the catch.

Morgan's been taken out of the game until I can get this straightened out. I think the only thing that's off is the card image; i.e. the ratings and price are correct. So I think it's just a matter of finding the card image.

Ok, his card image has been corrected and he's been put back in. His price was calculated on this correct card (which, fwiw, was poached from The '70s Game), so we're all good now. Thanks again to rburgh for the catch.
