How could you possibly "corner the market" on any ATG position?

I guess what I was thinking and didn't communicate at all  was if I don't get the player chosen I had ranked 3rd on the list, that it then gives me my 4th ranked player (if available) and so on. That way I at least receive someone I wanted.

I have long advocated for just such functioning in the autodraft. Go on to the next most desired player and give me consolations at bottom of draft.

there was an ATG thread on this before.

Unfortunately too many of you guys like the "game within the game" of getting draft choices.

I'll stand by the point that current draft gives the possibility that someone could theoretically get 0 draft picks. If the system even gives that as a possibility, there is a problem with it and it should be changed.

But then now you'll get some guys who spend a lot more $$ than me say how it's fine the way it is.

Yep, I had suggested a Yahoo (and other sites) type draft annually for years on end, where you rank players according to desire. It's been met with deaf ears so I gave up suggesting it a year or two ago. I still recall a few years back playing in Minutemaid when it was something like 3/17 for home runs lefty and righty. I'd put A. Jones as my #1 selection, and if I didn't get him would end up with a VERY useless (for my ballpark) Jim Edmonds as my consolation prize.

I'm not a computer expert so I don't know the difficulty, but it sure seems to be a lot easier of a program than what we presently have.

What about also adding the ability to make an add as part of a trade if accepted.

For example I have 2 catchers. I offer a trade that includes one of my catchers but do not care for either of the other team's catchers. Cannot make the trade because it makes my roster illegal. But what if I could specify that if this trade is accepted pick up Tom Pagnozzi or whomever. And the trade page was smart enough to recognize with that my roster would stay legal.

I agree with you Geekor...and I still think it would still satisfy "the game within the game" crowd.

It's one thing to lose out on someone cause he's ranked higher by someone else, but then only having the computer instead give you the next best similar player NOT already showing up on anyone's draft list anywhere...that's always been a pain point to me.

Definitely could/should be fixed.

I've been involved in fantasy football/baseball drafts on other sites, that implement contingency planning within the autodraft functions...so it's not unprecedented.

Maybe I'm looking at this wrong, but say it worked like that. Then say you kept NOT getting guys you wanted, and all of a sudden you're near the bottom of your draft list (having gotten just a couple guys you wanted).

Then what.

Then start giving you comparable substitutes?

Seems to me some, if not a lot of people (particularly rookies*) would end up with some displeasing and down right **** *** rosters post draft.

I can see the pros of that type of system, I just think there has to be some negatives to it as well.

* = not talking as if I'm not a rookie mind you.

OK, think with me a minute.

You miss on #1 so it moves to your #2 for the first round. You don't miss on that pick unless someone also picked your #2 as their #1. If the did that you are not getting your #2 either way. Ditto for any picks moved up. And ditto for any level of pick we might talk about.

So worst case scenario under such a rule is still no worse than what exists now.
