Yes, I see where this is really confusing. And I am talking about
the TSN - SOM merger. But not on company level, more on
the community level.
I was trying to anticipate a few things, as they might play out
when the sites merge. And in the thread about going all-in on
the CD-rom (http://forums.sportingnews.com/viewtopic.php?t=626537&start=25,
scroll to PJ Axelsson's final psot) there was a post the SOM users comments
towards, well, users not on the SOM site. That would be us. Maybe I
am reading to much into it.
But SOM is fairly tolerant of us and things we like to muse and discuss,
a lot of that could change:
(1) How will the existing subscribers view us (I.e., are we just a bunch
or Newbies")
(2) If a discussion about the game comes up (one of the favorite
topics on these threads), will the owner of the SOM just tell us its off-limts?
(3) Can we still curse at "Hal" ?
and there might be smaller continuiuty issues, for instance, if
were allowed different ids (I would make a shorter one for myself, actually), can our casual friends still recognize us?
I could go on. And I do understand we will find out the details in time.
And there is a real possibility some of the current community might
not like the new location. Not saying it will happen, but it could happen.
But if it does happen, there are old SOM friends we might not get to
say good-bye to.
I am just reminded of the thread Petro once started, "Let me introduce
myself," where about 50+ posted a short bio (maybe 100+). Totally
optional, no rules on what to say. It was a classy, socially aware
moment on these threads.
Anyway there are two opportunties here for us to view the community
for what it has been and what it will be. Kind of a "going away" party
opporutinty and a "welcoming party" opportunity. Just two opportunities
for us to be socially aware that we have not just been players to
online strat, but also a community. And also a recognition of the next
generation of the community may not include some of the friends,
colleagues, sparring partners that we have come to know.
So back to your question about what I meant -- well, yeah, I totally
messed up my original description.
