Bernie - thats a HUGE disadvantage to those picking at the end of the round, especially given the fact that we were are the bottom for the normal draft. Not fair at all...

I have to agree with SB here on stadiums being picked only in the final round. Big disadvantage..............

The rules are the rules & were clearly stated from the start

From the league rules as stated in the first post of this thread:

[quote:83a92f0242="BDWard"] [b:83a92f0242]*[/b:83a92f0242] [size=15:83a92f0242] [b:83a92f0242]16 round serpentine draft run on Diamond Dope with randomizer to determine draft order, with the last round for picking a unique MLB stadium from either the 1950s or 1960s. Once a stadium is picked, it cannot be used again.[/b:83a92f0242][/size:83a92f0242] (emphasis added) In the Diamond Dope player draft, please draft the card you intend to use to help curb player hoarding. In the event you wish to use one of the players in new card batch #6 released February 22 and it is not yet added to Diamond Dope, draft a different version of the player card and put the true version of the player card on your autodraft list. There will be a 3 hour clock for draft picks. Exceeding 3 hours puts one at risk to have a pick skipped. [/quote:83a92f0242]

I also posted a reminder of the stadium rule a couple of times along the way.

Yes, I agree that it gives an advantage to those getting first crack at the stadiums. Those are the same people who had the disadvantage of picking late in the first round. We all knew this before joining, so why is this suddenly objectionable?

The rules are the rules. If anyone had a problem with them, it should have been raised from the start or a change should have been suggested prior to joining the league. Part of the reason for such rule is to give the people with the lower picks in the first round the earlier stadium picks. To change the rules more than half way through the draft would be unfair to those who may have wanted to draft a stadium earlier.

I would have gladly given up my #2 stadium pick in round 16 to have had a shot at Mantle, Mays, Dimaggio, Mathews etc. Now some people who got those stud players are complaining about unfairness? Are you serious?

SB, check where you are picking in round 16 and let me know if you're still complaining. Even if the rule was changed, what would prevent someone with an early first round pick from picking a stadium before you?

Where we drafted was the luck of the draw. I suggest that everyone focus on rounding out their teams and completing the draft.

Sorry I didn't realize it was reverse draft order for the stadium selections. My apologies...

I'm not complaining. It is customary in dd drafts that a stadium can be selected in any round so that if a particular stadium is important to your draft strategy, you can grab it when you think best. i should have read these particular rules better. Now i am drafting a team for a particular park that it appears i will not have a chance to acquire.

Draft on everyone. :D

Andy: I'm sure you would agree that everyone bears the responsibility of familiarizing themselves with the rules and that they proceed at their own risk by failing to do so.

I've been in DD drafts with stadiums selected in the last round. I've also been in other leagues where stadiums can be picked at any time. I don't know if there is any such thing as "customary". There are as many different sets of rules as there are DD drafts. But really, what relevance does the procedure in other leagues have on the rules here, other than to serve as an explanation for your erroneous assumption regarding this league?

Fortunately, there are plenty of parks from which to choose. I have a feeling that you'll get a decent righty park, though maybe not just your first choice.

Let's move the draft along so that we can focus on the games instead of failing to read the rules.

Let's finish the draft today

Postby BDWard » Tue Feb 28, 2012 8:29 am

Let's knock out the draft today. I'll then get some random numbers for division assignments and we can start entering our teams beginning with those teams that get assigned to the East.

Thanks for your help in making this a smooth draft so far. - Bernie W

As everyone should know by now, stadiums cannot be drafted until the last round. I'm hoping that this was an accident, maybe the result of proxies being used up. I've sent Tom a PM to correct the situation.

This is mostly a veteran group of managers. It is really appalling and disheartening that people continue to be unable to read the rules.

stadiums

Postby PJK » Tue Feb 28, 2012 10:09 am

I agree that things even out in the end. I had no shot at mays, mantle, dimaggio, morgan, banks because of where i drafted in round 1. so picking stadiums in reverse order seems to me no more or no less fair. moreover, my draft strategy is predicated on knowing my draft position relative to stadiums. moreover, at this point changing the rule would lead to a run on stadiums -- which means whoever's pick it is when the change is made gets the advantage, which is no different from the initial complaint (You'd have to do another randomizer to determine order for stadiums to produce a "fair" result at this stage). so let's stick with the plan.
