Over/Under - Value

Over/Under - Value

What do you think SOM over or under value's in it's statistical equations?

I got to thinking about this after reading the discussion on the value of clutch hitters. I would also be curious about the Sim ratio of player injuries against the real life numbers.

For me i believe SOM puts too much emphasis and/or value on clutch, defense and ballparks. When i play the CD rom game i have clutch, ballpark effect, and injuries turned off.

I don't know yet, but I am working on a way to get that type of information. I have not completed it, but once I have I will share what I find out with the injuries and ballpark effects. The clutch means reading the card also which I have not built into my database yet.

When I play the CD-ROM I do not use clutch, it is only meant to be used in AS PLAYED STOCK REPLAYS anyway. I do use ballparks however, with certain seasons like 1980 (which I am playing right now) there is no super advanced ball park ratings.

It would be interesting to see the formula for pricing. I am sure most of us would look at it and disagree with the value placed on various factors. Some of us might adjust our teams to go after things we considered undervalued.

Clutch would be a difficult thing to turn off at this point. Whatever value it is assigned there are many players who would go from marginal value to good value. The Brock and Willie Wilson cards for example would be very different values if clutch were turned off. So the set would require repricing.

I agree that it would be problematic to turn off the clutch now. I am just saying I do not use it when playing on my own. Clutch seems to me to be for stock teams "As played" replays and not for draft leagues.
