That is a VERY good question...

They need to have a card in the current, standard set in order to be drafted as free agents

Guys like Alonso and Perez could be drafted as prospects however.

Still need Ray's drops.

WAAAAAAAAIT a minute, wouldn't you have to wait unil next year to draft these guys??

What is the league definition of a propspect??

In most other leagues, prospects can't have any MLB playing time.

I wasn't here when this league started, and I came in mid stream last year, so I'm a little unclear, but it seems to me that guys like Alonso and Perez, would have to be drafted in next year's free agent draft (assuming they get cards)because they have MLB playing time, just no card.

I don't mind either way just want it clarified before I move any other draft picks. :?

[quote:e924ba26b9="thisisray"]PROSPECT DRAFT
1) After the Initial draft, and after each year's Annual Free Agent draft, there will be a three round Prospect Draft.
2) Each team will be able to select 3 prospects, which is any player who DID NOT RECEIVE A CARD ON THE SN website and is the property of an MLB team.
[/quote:e924ba26b9]

This is the rules we have played by up to this point. If we want to change them we'd have to vote. I'm ok with whatever, but as of right now yes Alonso and S. Perez would be considered prospects. I believe this discussion came up last year as well but I haven't searched through the thread to find it.

It makes sense as is from the perspective that a player is either a prospect or a major league player. In my other league, any player with one MLB AB or inning pitched is considered a FA, while any player without MLB time is a prospect, thus covering all players. In that league, you can't draft a prospect until he has been drafted or signed by an MLB team (so you have to wait til the year following).

In this league, if you can't draft a player who has service time in the FA draft, then you must be able to draft him as a prospect. Does make sense to me.

Ok after looking for a bit, we had this almost exact same conversation on PG 35 and 36 from March of last year. I also think Niners response was almost exactly the same

Amendments to the Rules 21 Mar 2011 12:45

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, if any owner disputes any of these amendments, or feels a vote is in order, we will have one. Here are my proposed clarifications to the rules:

PROSPECT DRAFT
2) Each team will be able to select 3 prospects, which is any player who DID NOT RECEIVE A CARD ON THE SN website (players carded in the "Unleashed" set are still available for draft) and is the property of an MLB team.

SUPPLEMENTAL DRAFT
7) Only those players who were issued SOM cards for the current season and appear on TSN’s website are eligible for the draft (players carded in the "Unleashed" set are not available for draft) .

_____________________________________________________________

For example last year Freeman was allowed to be drafted as a prospect even though he had 24 AB's in the big leagues.

So unless we want to vote to change the rules then yes anyone without a card in the standard set (ie Alonso, S. Perez) are draftable as prospects.

Re: Drafting Question

[quote:412edf38ce="Ninersphan"][quote:412edf38ce="Roscodog"][quote:412edf38ce="peterdouglas38"]The intent of the rules regarding FA picks is unclear. It says that "Only those players who were issued SOM cards for the current season and appear on TSN’s website are eligible for the draft."

Am I to understand then that a player who misses a whole season due to an injury cannot be drafted?

In my other league, we can draft anyone with MLB experience, but I'm not saying we should necessarily do that here.

Just seems that you should be able to draft a guy who previously had a card but lost it due to injury.

Thoughts?[/quote:412edf38ce]

You are correct only a player with a card can be drafted. Yes if a players missed a whole season he would not have a card therefore could not be drafted. If however you had someone on your roster, like Wainright you could keep him on your roster if you chose to do so even if he was not issued a card.

I personally like that about this league. It makes it easier to come up with an available player list. It also leaves more guys open to the prospect draft. In other leagues even if a player has one AB or IP, he would be eligible for the FA draft but not the prospect draft.[/quote:412edf38ce]

WAIT WAIT WAIT,

so are you saying then that a guy who is uncarded in TSN but got called up and pitched (or hit) say 23 innings in the majors last year for his only MLB expierience ( Chris Sale as an example)

[b:412edf38ce][size=18:412edf38ce]IS[/size:412edf38ce][/b:412edf38ce]

eligible for the prospect draft???

If so, man has this league changed most of the keeper rules that the other leagues play with.

I have no problem with it, just want to know who is in which pool.[/quote:412edf38ce]

Clearly it's so mind blowing a concept, I forgot i brought it up last year.

as i said I don't have a preference as to which way we do it, just want to know for sure which way it is.

Hopefully I'll remember next year.

Oh and thanks Rosco, for finding out,

and for making me look like a dimwit

Sorry, actually I found out I asked a question last year that I also asked this year. I just didn't re-post it. I have a good memory it's just short.
