Something fishy going on there. You made it sound like a guy with no experience making moves without understanding the consequences. But, I don't know...

there are a lot of moves here that don't make a damn bit of sense, no matter how inexperienced the manager. I mean, there are 7 players that were hitting over .300 when they were dropped. Langston was dropped after 1 start were he gave up 4 hits and 2 ER.

There's bad managing, but this is Eric Wedge territory.

Something else going on here if you ask me.

adrian,

take it easy on me. you me gave the team after the season had started (thanks the opportunity again), with a 20% waiver hit and some serious needs but i am seriously trying to win.

It's time to ask Bernie to take over the team

Postby BDWard » Sat Mar 10, 2012 12:07 am

What has happened to this team is truly unfortunate. I agree with those who say that all those changes destroy the competitive balance of the league and give other teams in the same division an unfair advantage in the playoff race.

The same thing happened in one of my leagues. A new player kept dropping players in a $100 mil league, having a roster value of about $60 mil and had lost 18 games in a row and 24 of 25.

I wrote to Bernie and asked him to intervene. The next day Bernie took over the team and restored the roster to about $90 mil for the last 30 games of the season and it was an almost respectable 13-17 in that span, but still finished 49-113, a dismal .302 winning percentage. Prior to Bernie assuming control of the team the winning percentage was just .273.

While I understand that sometimes its important to give new players some latitude to learn the game, there is always plenty of help available to those truly interested in becoming good managers, short of decimating a team. It doesn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that players are priced a certain amount for a reason and that if one takes a 20, 10 or even 5% hit every time a player is dropped that frequent drops will soon make it hard to compete with teams that haven't dropped players. While it is sometimes difficult to know where to draw the line on frequent player drops by new players, at some point when the drops become increasingly random and nonsensical it seems that the best interest of the rest of the managers in the league must be taken into account. It seems as though the line has been crossed in this situation and it's time to ask Bernie to intervene.

First rule:
Don't assume an experience level based on the username.

Second rule:
Determine response by observed actions, not by words.
